Cheerleading coach allegedly tried to groom boy, 14, for sex

A high school cheerleading coach allegedly tried to groom a 14-year-old student for sex, according to reports out of Oklahoma.
Shelly Jo Duncan, a student counsellor and English teacher at an alternative school in Tishomingo, Okla., is likely facing charges after she was arrested for allegedly engaging in a relationship with the student. Duncan is the cheerleading coach at Tishomingo High School and the wife of Tishomingo Public Schools Supt. Kevin Duncan.
“We believe there was an inappropriate sexual relationship between this women and a young male student,” Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown told KFOR TV.
Duncan, 48, was taken into custody Friday, the day before Tishomingo High’s homecoming game, by OSBI agents after a request for help from local police. She was booked into Johnston County Jail “on a complaint of lewd or indecent proposals or acts with a child under 16,” according to a press release from the OSBI. She has been released on bail.
USA Today reported Tuesday that Duncan and the alleged victim talked through Snapchat, thinking the messages couldn’t be seen after being deleted. In one of those messages, USA Today alleges Duncan said she wanted to perform oral sex on him while sucking on a cough drop.
Duncan worked as a juvenile justice specialist at the Office of Juvenile Affairs from 1998-2006 before becoming a probation and parole officer with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections until resigning in 2012.
