An artist's impression of the 'Statue of Unity’ to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first deputy prime minister, will stand at 597ft when completed in 42 months. It is almost 100ft taller than China’s Spring Temple Buddha, the world’s current tallest statue at 502ft. It will be almost twice as high as the Statue of Liberty in New York, which is 305ft. Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square stands at 170ft. The memorial will be set on a river island close to the Narmada Dam and will be connected to an amusement park and a garden in Sardar Patel’s honour by a bridge.

soon to be numero uno but in the meantime:

and a bunch of other big-assed statues around the world:

It seems kind of odd to want to spend so much money on a gianormous statue of someone. Life size seems quite reasonable (and reasonably priced). Maybe even slightly bigger to encourage the impression these people were larger then life and very important. But 500 feet tall...feels almost like some kind really weird over compensation type thing.

The need to impress is stronger than the need to be realistic.
Imagine the starving in the streets and the squallier then take
a look at where this money is going on a bloody statue

But who are they impressing? I imagine if aliens from outer space came to visit and they saw us going about our business with all these giant statues of people, they'll laugh their alien genitalia off. It's classic over compensation of gianormous proportions..

They would make a lot more money if you could hold a mike and give a 10 second message to the 'flock below' (time delay of about 15 seconds suggested)
Get to see a lot of speed-boats do u-turns in the harbor also

Till one stood beside it and put an arm around the shoulders like a bigger brother would do.

Or put in high powered cameras and video record EVERYTHING.

They should develop a taser laser and they could build these giant cop statues with taser lasers in the eye and zap people from afar.

I was thinking more along the 11:30 mark. Nice to see gears whirling without binding up, not everybody can do both at once.
