Never did like that phrase retard- comes from how it was used for these people afflicted and that was the term used when I was growing up.

Am I being PC- No - the English language is overflowing with other, more descriptive words.

The term "Retard" targets a specific number of people that are afflicted.

Using it as an insult only reinforces the use of such a phrase.

Just my thoughts.

Oh yes- It is not an infringement- It is called using your brain to use phrases that are more accurate and descriptive.
Use your brain, it is a muscle that needs exercise. Feel free to exercise it.

No I think it falls in with Bart Simpson's. "That's gay." Certainly Bart is not denigrating the Homosexual Community and if Cobalt were mentally disabled I wouldn't call him a Retard.

Are you posting an opinion as individual, or as a writer who feels that this could restrict a writers choice.
Both could be contradictory at times. I will leave that to you as a writer do you encounter conflict in the use of such phrases.
Me, more than willing to listen to both.
I am referring to the whitewashing, wow could be something there, in the attempt to whitewash Mark Twains writings and the use of certain words like Ni66er and Injun. Most only think of Ni66er due to lack of exercising their respective brains, and forget or are not interested in the term Injun.

The post by RCS was not why I posted the OP.
It was due to the phrase being used so often.
