UFO bloggers claim a lizard has been 'spotted' on the surface of Mars.

The reptile was first noticed by a spotter in Japan who alerted the UFO Sightings Daily website with one science blogger claiming NASA could be planting animals on the red planet.

It appears in photos from the Curiosity Rover released by the US space agency in March.

‘This odd creature was discovered on Mars by a person in Japan in March,’ the UFO website’s operator Scott C Waring posts.

He adds: ‘With water existing on Mars in small amounts, its possible to find such desert animals wandering around…although very rare mind you.

‘Then again, is NASA placing animals from tiny cyogenic chambers inside the rover onto the surface of Mars to conduct tests?’

Mr Waring invited readers to post comments voicing their opinion on the theory.

Atmosphere
Carbon dioxide: 95.32 %
Nitrogen: 2.7 %
Argon: 1.6 %
Oxygen: 0.13 %
Carbon monoxide: 0.08 %
and minute quantities of water, nitrogen oxide, neon, krypton, and xenon

atmospheric pressure
0.6% of Earth

temperatures range from -125C to 20C

and finally WTF does this lizard eat? Dust? Rocks?
If it's so rare, is it an asexually reproductive critter?

Only a small critter- does not need much oxygen. Lungs on that lil puppy no bigger than a babies fingernail.

Let's see.....

Large vulture/chicken hybrids.

Big green dogs with weird taste in hats.

Marvins.....nope, no lizards on Mars.

tch...oh ye of little faith...he was the sacrifice lizard that they sent to the surface to test us...there's a whole subterranean world there....you have to open yourself up a bit

Fly like Superman!!!
lol That would be more to do with the gravity effect than pressure. ;)

Actually it would need to breath extremely rapidly in order to get enough O2 to survive. And gills would be more effective anyway, I think.

lol I spose. :D

On the contrary, it'd need huge lungs relative to its body size to extract any useful amount of oxygen from the Martian atmosphere.
Or that.

A man can't have no fun no how.
You are assuming the lizard breathes oxygen.
Well, it's true that there are critters that do not need O2 to survive even here on the blue marble, but they are very simple organisms called "anaerobic", but they are usually single-celled, not complex like lizards, trees, etc.

Where do you think the Lizard people that run Planet Earth came from? It is all starting to fit.
hehehe I am pretty sure they don't come from Mars. I think they come from a place called Ickeimaginesia. :D

So did you, and it's the only metabolically active gas available in the Martian atmosphere, the others are pretty much inert, unless the thing has an ammonia-based metabolism that could use the nitrogen.

Interesting- how much oxygen does a plastic lizaRD need wherever it resides??

Plus I see no spots on THAT lizard- and if the lizard was being spotted somethng would have to be daubing onthe paint, right??
