US stealth F-35 jet is grounded
China National News Saturday 23rd February, 2013

• Famous US stealth jet grounded
• Pilots told to stay out after wing crack revealed
• Officials concerned fault may deter jet buyers
The US Defense Department has decided to ground all its F-35 stealth jets.
Fighter pilots have been told to stay out of F35 cockpits as a precautionary measure following the finding of a mechanical fault, namely a crack in an F-35 engine.
Officials from the F-35 Joint Program Office are working with Lockheed Martin and Pratt Whitney, the joint makers of the plane, to determine any problems.
Wanting to return the aircraft safely to flight as soon as possible, officials are concerned other countries might cut their orders for the jets.
The Navy, Air Force and Marines have their own versions of the F-35.
The Marine version was recently grounded for a month because of unrelated problems.
F-35 planes had a history of delays and cost overruns during their development.

Is that what Canada wanted to purchase from the US ?

Actually China reports the truth on this one except the American news networks reported
the grounding last week and it was also on the CBC so China news might be a little late

Too heavy, insufficient power. America screwed up on the F-35.

America? Take a look at the fuselage... see all those flags?

The flags only indicate those countries that initially contributed money towards the developement
of the aircraft. Unfortunately MacDonald Douglas or whoever they call themselves plus all the sub-
-contractors thought it was a licence to print money.

Ahhhh... so Canada didn't contribute at all?

Teething troubles.... How many carbon-fibre composite constructed aircraft are there to study?

I remember when the F-18 was overpriced...useless... a disaster... too much technology that would never work in combat.

Same with the M-1 tank. Prior to Desert Storm they said it would never work in the desert and would not match up to the Soviet made tanks.

We all know how that turned out.

People gotta whine about something.

Canada contributed a couple hundred million initially, hoping to get some of the work
on the F-35. The problems started when the price started to skyrocket. It got to the point
where we couldn't afford it. Other countries have cut back or cancelled orders for this
aircraft, so it is not just Canada.

The F-35 is a ridiculous plane.

The entire program has been mismanaged so far. The end result appears likely to be a useless aircraft that won't be that stealthy which is a step backwards regarding speed, maneuverability, armaments...

At least according to this expert:

Whether the F35 is a pile of junk or not is open to debate. However there is no such thing as wasted money in developing cutting edge technology. Not counting mismanagement of funds of course.

As I said... the same thing happened with the F-18... F-14... F-15... F-16... etc. Too big... too expensive... too many problems... too dangerous... would never stand toe to toe with Soviet equipment.

...sigh...

People just gotta whine.

Didn't help design it at all?

Snippet that says it all...
1. The F-35 JSF Program

Since 1997, Canada has been involved in the development, design and initial production phases of the F-35 JSF Program.
