Hey myself, fiance and wee boy will hopefully have moved over within the next year or two. I am a plasterer by trade but I have completed an offshore course and have the certificates. Does anyone know of any companies who would hire a roustabout with no relevant experience.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi Ryan,
Your North Sea offshore pass, burn and drown ticket and other certs will not help you working as a roustabout in Canada.
A UK burn and drown ticket could possibly be valid offshore East Coast Canada.

Your going to have to start over I am afraid and the tickets can be pricey.
Most of the Alberta drilling contractors have there yards in Nisku which is just down the road from Edmonton.
So do some of the safety cert outfits.

Google :Canadian Drilling Contractors to see who hires roughnecks and roustabouts.
Google : Enform to see one of the outfits that provide Canadian certs.

I think I would go with the trade if I were you.
With a wife and wee one in tow I recommend you go to work at whatever is on offer as quick as you can.
Pick and choose later.
Most of Saskatchewan, Alberta and Northern BC need workers.
You could probably find work hanging drywall or taping pretty quick in Edmonton.
Figure out where you are going to live and what your expenses are going to run.
Google drywall and construction contractors around and in Edmonton, email them and try and get a job lined up before you get here.

Do not pay anyone for assistance or advice before you arrive.
