It must suck to be Mayan.

99 days that is two upsidedown sixes if we add them and divide by two, like the Mayans did all the time, we get the third six which makes 666 which we can see is three upsidown nines which is ****in near a thousand 999 was a cheap wine in the seventies like 74 ,what are the Mayans trying to tell us?

Considering that the Mayan civilization collapsed quite some time ago, I'd say the Mayan doomsday has already happened.
Posted like someone who's never been to Meso America-Mayans are everywhere and living the lives they've always wanted to live.

They kept their gods their families and their food and left the top heavy cities behind long ago.

You know nothing about where I've been and you're knocking down a straw man. I know there are still people around who call themselves Mayan, and I didn't suggest otherwise. What I said was that the civilization that existed when the Spaniards arrived a few centuries ago is gone, there is no longer a Mayan empire or state.

So you admit to never having been near Meso America-or knowing anything about the place.

In any case google is a good friend to those such as yourself-good luck.

I've been on these forums for five or six years now and in that time, at least a half dozen Mayan doomsday dates have been posted
and so far, none of them has been born out with any kind of a "happening"that anyone noticed. It's getting a bit boring.....

Sure glad i'm not a Mayan! It will be sad to see them go but hey, they should have built a better calendar that let them exist longer.

FYI-the calendar ends because it is when the new age begins. We move into the age of Aquarius (LOL) seriously. All to do with some sunrise or something and what constellation it happens in. Believe it is called celestial regression or something similar.

Like all calendars.. the Mayan deals with a cycle of astronomical events that merely start over when completed. It is the industry of doomsday afficianados.. all of Western rather than Mayan origins that have attached this 'end times' scenario. They'll come up with something new when the sun rises and the world goes on, on December 22nd... there's money to be made from fools who eat up this type of stuff.

Well you know Bill, there are better ways to explain things to someone than adopting a tone of sarcastic superiority, and if you expect me to take that seriously you're mistaken. I'm willing to be instructed by those who know more than I do, but I do not suffer fools, and I will not respond to that tone again. Sarcasm is the refuge of the weak.

Are you trying to claim that the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization still exists? If so, you're quite wrong, it doesn't, and that's really all I said. There's a remnant population that still preserves some of the language and culture scattered across the former Mayan territory in southern Mexico and northern Central America, but those are post-colonial states, Mayan civilization is no longer the power in the land.

As there are still Mayans around, their doomsday did not arrive; just that for their civilisation. And their calendar renews, so the idea that Mayans suggest that the world will end on some date this year because of that is fiction.

It is most likely to happen on a friday, late afternoon , while we're packing to get away for the weekend.

I know. It's always that way. I'd shut off my phone at 14:00hrs just to be safe...

I bet the Mayans that are still around are having a hoot over this crap.
