Tis the nature of empire. The American Empire has just as many horror stories to tell, from the Philippines to Iraq. As George Carlin would say, we are no more evolved than the Cro Magnon Man.

They didn't even mention the Opium Wars of the mid 19th Century.

They was incited when the Chinese banned imports of opium (from poppy plantations in British India and Aghanistan), which was devastating populations in China with addiction. But this was costing the British Empire money.. and it was in contravention of Free Trade.. and free market in narcotics.. so they had to be brought into line.

The complete lack of response to the Irish Potato famine was justified on the same basis of Malthusian Liberalism. To reduce the excess population of 'inferior' cultures by natural (or imposed) famines and plagues..

Both these were direct ancestors to the Global Free Market ethos of today.

The World
More "Angst" from the ultra left, who are truly sorry that they were ever born.

It would be a blessing to the world, if they would "shuffle off this mortal coil", and leave the rest of humanity alone.

Bloody Lefty Liberals implanting modern views and tastes into the past.

The fact remains that the British Empire was the most benign empire in history and it's a shame that it's gone. The world would be a much better place were it still here.

It would still be here if Briddish "men" these days were worth the sweat off their fathers' balls.
