In the Second World War the Russians would drop partisans and irregular troops behind German lines........into snow fields from as low and slow as they could go, but WITHOUT parachutes.

Crazy how? An AN-2 (the plane they used for these drops) can get down to about 50 kph. They figured an 85% rate of survival (defined as landing able to fight).
