Soooo.....after the mayhem and mass murder in Japan (33 dead, so far), are we arguing for licenses and background checks on anyone buying gasoline? How about complete bans on assault matches?

If not, why not?

A little reality; you can not stop madmen from killing.

Yes, and mass murder is such an alien concept to Japanese culture, as well..

Some crazy Japanese bastwards filled a Tokyo Subway tunnel with Sarin gas, a while back. I suppose that the unfair prohibition on freedom loving private citizens possessing all the Sarin that they want was all because of that one, misguided lunatic.

Once again a modern tragedy serves to support gun policy.

Leave it to clompy.

Yep.

I'm guilty as charged, a fair criticism. I thought about that before posting.............but you sometimes have to fight fire with fire. (absolutely no pun intended)

BTW, I just released you guys from being ignored, as I was curious about your reaction.

Kudos on (for once) being correct.

Hunh. Not up to your usual standard. Rough day?

Have a drink or two, watch The Greatest Showman with the missus, and get a good night's sleep.

Please believe I say this without the least sarcasm or condescension.

No Dear. Sarin is not a defensive weapon, nor even a legal military weapon.

BTW, thanks for proving my point.

Obviously, they figured out a way to do mass killing without an AR 15. More than once.

BTW, I just released you guys from being ignored, as I was curious about your reaction. Yours is just as dumb as I expected. Good Lord, HOID did better. A lot better.

I do know that. :)
I promise you'll both love the film. It's very uplifting (if not terribly accurate).

You seem to be a bit off your feed today. I feel that way myself far too often these days. Maybe it's just a passing thing, but you are one of the rocks in my world, and your well-being is important to me.

OK, that was a bit more revelatory than I intended to be, but I'll let it stand.

LILLEY: Gun poll shows Torontonians want a ban

Brian Lilley
Updated: July 21, 2019

Seems like all the fearmongering over legal handgun owners by Justin Trudeau’s Liberals is having the desired effect as the majority of Torontonians believe that a handgun ban will make them safer.

That’s the result of a poll of 1,143 Toronto voters by Forum Research.

“The majority of Torontonians believe a ban on handguns will reduce shootings by gangs in Toronto,” said Lorne Bozinoff, President of Forum Research.

In total, 62% of Toronto residents answered “yes” when asked: “In your opinion, would a handgun ban reduce the number of shootings committed by gangs in Toronto?”

“Like most issues, however, there is a strong divide by political lines, with Liberals and NDPers saying a handgun ban would reduce shootings by gangs, and Conservatives and PPCers saying it would not.”

By party breakdown, New Democrats were most likely to say they supported a gun ban at 77%, Liberals at 75%, Greens at 58%, Conservatives at 42% and PPC at 18%.

I don’t blame people in Toronto for wanting action on gun crime. Things have been getting bad, but this is more like a divide between reality and fiction than a divide between parties.

Let’s look at the stats.

Between Jan. 1 and July 14, there were 203 shootings with 310 victims, including 18 people who died from gunfire.

Something must be done, but banning handguns from legal gun owners won’t stop gunplay in the streets.

First off, the guns used by gangs mostly come from the United States and are smuggled in via the black market. They aren’t purchased at your local hunting store or gun show.

Last year, a member of the Toronto Police Service made the false claim in a media interview that 50% of the guns used in crime were sourced in Canada. After multiple media outlets from the Toronto Sun to CBC proved the claim false, TPS admitted the claim was false and made in error.

Taking guns away from legal gun owners won’t stop the supply of handguns smuggled into Canada.

Take the case of the Danforth shooting. Police have never stated outright where the shooter obtained his gun, but we do know that his brother had been living in a house where 33 illegal, smuggled guns were discovered along with 42 kilos of the deadly street drug carfentanil.

Stopping those guns, and the deadly opioid crisis that is fueling the gunplay, will have a real impact.

So will charging those with illegal guns with every charge that they could possibly face.

Legal gun owners, the people who go through a two-day safety course, pass tests, RCMP background checks and more, before waiting for a gun licence can face a whole series of charges if they don’t store their guns properly.

Let’s start charging gang members with guns with these charges each and every time.

Unauthorized possession of firearm comes with a sentence of up to five years, carrying a concealed weapon comes with a sentence of up to five years, as well, contravention of storage regulations comes with a sentence of up to two years and then there are transportation offences and more.

But given that those carrying illegal guns are already breaking countless laws and facing serious jail time, do you think it will stop the gangsters from carrying guns?

As Sir John A. Macdonald said during a gun-ban debate in 1877, imposing a prohibition will only lead to “disarming the person who ought to be armed, and arming the rowdies.”

I understand the desire of the people polled to want something to be done. With shootings going up dramatically, whatever the various police and security services are doing is not enough.

Let’s focus on the real problem if we want to find a solution that will work.

The majority of gang members are members of a visible minority . Our politicians and news media must never portray minorities and immigrants in a negative manner .

Dont worry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals are issuing FAKE NEWS YET AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At a guess...................................................

LIE-berals asked people::::

"Are you in favour of issuing a life time BAN.......................................

that would prevent Toronto gang bangers from ever possessing fire arms"???????????????????????????

And MOST PEOPLE are ENTHUSIASTIC about keeping guns away from criminals and crazy people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals are masters at asking THE LEADING QUESTION....................................

and then carefully editing the answers................................

into something NOBODY ACTUALLY SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is this LIE-beral mastery of fantasy and illusion..............

that permits our economy to be BOOMING......................

while so heavily loaded in RECORD DEBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd totally favor it!
Then I could ride my unicorn around town at all hours of the night and not have to worry.
Because criminals never ignore the law.
Some rootin'tootin' tough guy Dentist trophy Hunter from Malibu will shoot your Unicorn and take a selfie with it. He do it all with help from All American Hunting Exotic Game from Helicopters ... of Minnesota, Inc.
