The great Canadian climate delusion

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/opin...he-first-country-to-break-apart-over-climate/

Continued investment in the oil sands generally, and in the Trans Mountain pipeline specifically, means Canada is doubling down on a no-win bet. We’re betting that the world will fail to meet the reduction targets in the Paris Climate Agreement, thus needing more and more oil, including our expensive and polluting bitumen. We’re betting, in other words, on climate disaster.

Heads or tails, we lose. That’s the idiocy of it. We can’t have our lucrative oil sands profits and a safe climate, too.

This isn’t just rhetoric. Canada has no plan to meet its 2030 Paris Agreement emission targets

Told ya!

More conversations are needed.

Let’s fess up to our failings on climate change and then do something

http://ipolitics.ca/2018/06/15/lets-fess-up-to-our-failings-on-climate-change-and-then-do-something/

“We reaffirm the commitment that we have made to our citizens to reduce air and water pollution and our greenhouse gas emissions to reach a global carbon-neutral economy over the course of the second half of the century.” Okay, that’s an actual specific commitment, sometime in the last half of the century we’ll have a carbon-neutral global economy.

Is that actually consistent with the no more than 2C temperature rise? As it turns out, no. It’s not even close.

More discussions and studies needed.

Canada won’t up goals to fight climate change

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/8687598-canada-won-t-up-goals-to-fight-climate-change/

When it signed the Paris agreement in 2015, Canada set targets to cut emissions to 30 per cent below what they were in 2005 by 2030 and it isn't looking yet at setting those targets higher. Currently Canada is working on actually meeting the existing targets, with most analyses suggesting Canada would be at least 50 million tonnes shy of its goal by 2030 unless more work is done.

"We negotiated an ambitious climate plan and we're committed to implementing that plan," McKenna said from Belgium on Thursday. "That's quite frankly our focus right now."

While in Belgium, Canada did sign a "declaration of ambition" put forward by the Marshall Islands, declaring it will look at "exploring the possibilities for stepping up our own ambition." A spokesperson for the minister later said ambition does not necessarily mean targets, but Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine seems to disagree.

A "Declaration of Ambition".

Northern Ontario,
Here in Kapuskasing yesterday, it was 32C or 89.6 F and everyone seemed to be running their air conditioners
To-day it was 9C or 48 F and my furnace started a few times....

Now "That" .......is is what I call temperature change.......

Mexico Advances on Methane, Raises the Bar for Canadian Climate Leadership

First the U.S, now it is Mexico doing more that Canada is in the fight against Climate Change.

Methane is exponentially worse for the atmosphere than carbon and we're not just talking cow farts. Swathes of permafrost are thawing which in turn releases huge amounts of methane. Though industry and yes, cows, contribute to the overall amount in the atmosphere, there are technologies available that industries can invest in to capture the gas. Unfortunately the same can't be said about bovine gaseous emissions nor the melting permafrost.

Mckenna all but ignores the bigger threat of methane instead joining the liberal chorus bent on imposing a tax that will do absolutely nothing but cause hardship to industry and taxpayers alike and make the Lefties feel good.

Yes, "cause hardship", "imposing", and "tax"..."These are a few of their favorite things..."
