I've recently been touring the Okanagan Valley and visiting a few of the wineries. There are some amazing destinations to visit and thousands of incredible wines to sample, all for free.
The industry is rapidly changing, as is the area, and I was shocked to realise that there are literally HUNDREDS of wineries, new ones springing up every day.
I just wanted to let everyone know that this is a local hot spot we can't afford to miss!

We like wine a lot here at Chateau Sinister. We like it so much, in fact, that I make my own in batches of 30 bottles at a time, because for about $2 a bottle I can make better stuff than anything that sells commercially here for $20. And be damned if I'll pay more than that for a bottle of wine. I think my palate is pretty good, so I'll also say this: there are some very good Canadian whites, but I've never sampled a Canadian red that I thought was any good at all. "Old Porchclimber" is what comes to mind.

And be damned if I'll pay more than that for a bottle of wine. I think my palate is pretty good, so I'll also say this: there are some very good Canadian whites, but I've never sampled a Canadian red that I thought was any good at all. what was the name of the vineyard way up the side of the mountain with a small house? I was there 2 years ago and we met a wonderful woman who kept filling our glasses (for free) and topping up my oldest boy's juice while regaling him with all sorts of tales about the ogo pogo. I loved the St. Hubertis and the Summerhill vineyards too, the best tour was of the Ceadar Creek vineyard. We did the loop over 2 days during the Spring wine festival

Our 'reds' aren't as consistent as our whites. They turn out more often like 'so so' Okanagan reds than something special. Every so often we make a winner but I can never duplicate it.

Same here. Maybe 1.50/bottle. Our home made white is excellent. I have 5 liquor stores within walking distance and none sell wine, Okanagan or otherwise, for less than 5.95/bottle after deposit and GST. Usally Okanagan wine isn't on sale for less than $7.50. We drink a half bottle of our own wine with supper and save over $100/month...plus we like it better than most purchased white wines.

There are some fairly good red wines vinted in B.C., mostly in the Okanagan. Sawmill Creek makes a decent Merlot and a very drinkable Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines are $8 or $9 a bottle. Mission Hill make wine that is certainly as good as what the French offer at the same price. B.C. wines have come a long way since the Capozzis were selling red "plonk" for $6 or $8 a jug.
