i sought. as a child i begged and prayed and cried and wailed for there to be a god and for him to listen and to help or even acknowledge my existance. i've tried meditation, quiet reflection, reading, discussion with various religious groups, etc etc etc. ive never made any kind of contact at all. I am open minded but have as yet seen no evidence of a God

If I told my kids when they were very young, while on an Easter egg hunt, that I hid a 20 dollar bill in one of the many eggs.
Either they believe me and take action to find it
or
they will not believe me and not search.

The idea is not that I wanted them to get the 20, but that they should move to look for the 20.

Faith im me as a dad, should be the motivation to seek the 20 dollar bill, verses not having faith in me and forget the price.

not a great deal beyond just reading it be honest. The thing is i've come to understand it's not a particularly reliable source, since it's been translated and retranslated and was written by humans with prejudices and agenda of their own

of course

i suppose that's why i stopped searching for a God. I found i was perfectly happy without Him, or maybe with Him, without knowing it.

I define "god" as the defining principle which started and maintains the creation of the universe and ALL within it. If you look for an old white guy with a long white beard and flowing robes or a beautiful woman with flowers in her hair accompanied by forest creatures you may be disappointed. Look around you at the miracle of creation, the beauty and splendor of this planet, this star system, the galaxy and the universe. Also look around at the chaos, the death, the hardships that life endures. All this is "god's" work. "God" is a word created by man. Attach the word to whatever principle, cultural norm, myth or legend agrees with your outlook on life and personal beliefs.

I define "god"
there are some who would say you shouldn't do that, rather that it's the other way round

They are free to say and worship how they want, free from insult and innuendo. Just as I am.

You could:

1/ Seek effect from a prayer cause. We naturally expect stimulus of some sort in this existential world, your approach.
2/ ("taking him for his word" approach) - low acceptance from the Church- Go with the confidence on the power of his promise that "he would not give a snake if a fish was requested (NT)", that he hears you and agrees and simply go on to create the environment to effect what you requested assuming you will get what you want.
3/ ("Inner-failing" approach) - conforms to Church rules of attitude- consider that it is something that would not be good for you to have, so you take a non-chalant attitude and accept the refusal.

I think (2) is perfectly valid, but the Church is luke warm on it, and feels this boarders on testing God. I say it is a conveyance of trust, and predicting the outcome is in favor of me places worth on his promise to give it.

And, my friend, you "won't". Our world is a wonderful place, why "on earth" would anyone need a
"figment of imagination" to worship. Is there something missing in our own emotional/mental
strength, so that we can't live our lives here on earth, enjoy our "liveliness", our "energy" and our
"vitality" and do good at whatever interests us, have a family if we wish, or not. I've read posts
that say, if there is no god, what use is there for us, VERY VERY SAD, we are wonderful creatures,
so why do we get stuck trying to find something that isn't there.

Ok, back to the hockey game, enjoy whatever you are doing everyone I know I will.

The Bible indicates in Isaiah 45:7 that God creates all good and all evil. He is totally unapologetic in that passage.
