If any of the local churches had 1/4 the attendance at their masses that Tim's has on your average rush hour commute,they'd all be richer than Bill Gates! I see 4 or 5 older people going into the area church most days, so no future for most religions here.

I would say that First Nations beliefs are Canada's true national religion. But since we are a multi cultural society, we dont have a national religion. It's best to keep it that way. Believe whatever you want, thats what makes Canada a great country.

The only distinctly Canadian religious group is the United Church, born out of a merger with the Methodist and other bodies at the beginning of the 20th century.

The religion that would fit the bill--It certainly works for me --is the cult of the flying spagetti monster----there are a growing number of followers including those who have been touched by his giant noodle-like appendage.
There are many pastafarians who regard him as their personal saviour.
PS--just so you know im NOT making this up--but i dont expect anyone to believe me.

Hmmm... Tim Hortons, Hockey, the native religions and the flying spaghetti monster, secularism and humanism and the United Chursch and Rael.
Seems we're having a hart time cultivating a national religions here. Let's see if I may be able to synthesis all of this:
The flying Spaghetti Monster started the heavens and the earth, but made earth cold! But when we die, we go to Tim Horton's.. the real one, not just the restaurant. But the restaurant gives us a taste of what it will be like. The Flying spaghetti monster taught secular humanism, and wanted us to build United Churches as a way to build our communities. It's priests are Shamans, and doughnuts are the body of the son of the flying spaghetti monster. The adherents of the Canadian Faith pray worship by playing hockey in his name, and we are all awaiting the Canadian Messiah, foreseen by Rael.
How's that for a Canadian religion. I think it's time to transfer this thread from the religions section to the humour section as it's now evolved that way.
So I challenge all of you to come up with a more distinctly Canadian religion than that.
Oh, and the Canadian Constitution is the infallible word of the flying spaghetti monster, as revealed to our forefathers.
Well, here's my attempt at a truly Canadian religion. Oh and you americans on board, please participate with what you think would be the truly American religion... Mormonism?

Since I always claim it as mine own spiritual path, how about Secular Fundamentalism. We could hold equality, freedom of speech, un-biased education, and personal liberty as our gods... and whenever someone even slightly implies that these things aren't all they're cracked up to be we burn their leaders in effigy, torch their places of worship, and fire our automatic weapons randomly into the air while shouting " Aiiiieeeee lkakakkakakababakbkabkbkbkaka aalalalallalalala DARWIN!! akakakakka baalllalalala HEALTH CARE!!!! kakakkakkkakakababaa FREE PRESS!!!"

The problem is that we secular humanists are too divided to mount an effective opposition to the cultists. But In a sense your implication is spot on ----
In the sense that the REAL conflict in the world the result of which will determine whether we survive or not is in my opinion not between christianity and islam or between islam and judaism nor between ANY two religions but between the magical irrational religious thinking as expoused by mass cults and --------------------------------------the concrete practical thinking of situational ethics, science and technology and the survivalist cult of international law.

Did Jesus die on the cross so we could get our double doubles?
