Is it time to stop buying bottled water?
You end up with a bottle that needs to be recycled and often isn’t
85% of plastic water bottles become garbage.
The bottling companies find it easier and more profitable to let you throw the water containers away and buy a new one each time.
About 2 million of them are thrown away every hour!
Most bottles sold are actually small sized bottles, increasing the wastage

I buy bottled water in big jugs that can't be returned so, I throw them into the blue box for recycling.
Since the Walkerton disaster our town seems to have increased chlorine and other chemicals into our tap water. I hate drinking it!! I can taste the chemicals!!! Other people must feel the same, because drinking bottled water has become a real fad. Everywhere in the cities one sees people walking around, carrying a bottle of water.
It is rumored that bottled water in most cases is nothing other than filtered tap water. Maybe installing a little filter on my kitchen faucet might do the trick, and I could save money as well as help the environment.
Does anyone of you have experience with a water filter?

I can see using bottled water if your supply is contaminated or tastes funny but otherwise no.

I laughed when they came out with bottled water, I still laugh they're trying to sell us something that should always be free to begin with. Oh and the fluoride they add to bottled water apparent can screw your health up because you're digesting it.

On my way back home over the weekend I saw at the Irving Station they're charging something like 50 cents for friggin air for your tires. They claim it goes to some charity of theirs, but that's retarded..... It's Air!
Frig it, I'll go home and get my damn tire pump for my bike and screw my back up. You want to get money for charity, don't do it on the stuff that's already free in the world, cripes.

Someone has to pay for the power to the compressor....and we all know that while at one time businesses saw themselves as part of their community they like business in general are now nothing less than vultures.
Bottled water is one of those curious things that ...yes I know...advertising attractive young men and women jogging and exercising and bicycling and and and with a bottle of water close to hand couldn't possibly influence anyone to buy water....
Implying that the creme de la creme of "society" drink bottled water and making sure that municipal and "regular" supplies are to be regarded as of dubious quality and most likely contaminated...would affect the way people think.....
Boy it sure is amazing that there are so many people in the world who don't have the mental wherewithal to consider the impact of their behavior... wonder why people are so influenced....?

I wonder how often do you have to change your filter, and how expensive are they? Unfortunately, I don't have a fridge with a water dispenser, would have to filter all water I use in the kitchen.

I had one for several years until someone told me he would never use it, because of the accumulation of the very substances one wishes to avoid, the water would constantly have to flow through. He thought it would make the water quality even worse, unless the filter was changed very frequently.
Mr. "Brita" sure made his millions!

Loon, the slow page loading has nothing to do with your internet connection. I think the forum is having database problems again as I have have received a couple errors indicating that.

Loon, the slow page loading has nothing to do with your internet connection. I think the forum is having database problems again as I have have received a couple errors indicating that.

As for my filter, I wouldn't even know if it needed changing, because our water tastes better than bottled straight out of the tap. We're lucky here. No chlorine stink, no rusty tastes or anything.
Barring that, the brita is a cheap way to go, and easy enough to keep filled for one or two people.

before trying to go the filter route loon, go the easy route. Fill a jug, and leave it in the fridge for 24 hrs for the gasses created by the chlorine to break out. Taste. That may be all you need to do to make it taste better.

There is an ordinary filter that takes out sediment, a ceramic filter that traps and kills bacteria, and a charcoal filter that removes any volatiles and odors. The filter set cost about a $150 dollars and took a half hour to install. We change the filter cartridges about every four or five months. Replacement cartridges cost $30 dollars.

Tap water for me. Right out of the tap...no filters...no nothing. I just fill up my plastic container and stick it in the fridge.
The other day I went to a fast food joint for a breakfast sandwich and just asked for water. I expected to get a soft drink cup with water and ice. No siree...bottled water for a price. What a rip off.
