This is not a question about pirating just asking:

What is the general state of Bell's woes from satellite piracy?

Have they cracked down yet?

Star Choice and DirecTV can stop it so why can't BEV or Dish stop the piracy?
An analogy I would is to Microsoft and their software constantly being targeted by hackers. If you have a large marketshare, it become financially rewarding for hackers to exploit flaws. As soon as Bell releases a new encryption scheme for a card, there is hackers trying to break it.

Yeah but Bell loses money if they sit back and do nothing.

And it hurts the other providers too.

I read up on the Nagra fiasco.

It's not a matter of sitting back and doing nothing. It's more comlicated then just severing a relationship with Nagra and replacing the cards from another provider. Also keep in mind that a lot of the receivers have integrated cards which cannot just be "swapped out".

Has ExpressVu ever turned a profit?

I always heard it was BCE's money loser.

So is MPEG-4 a confirmed thing?

When do you see the receivers being swapped out?

When will it be implemented?

Will the new bird in '09 be a replacement or addition?

Is their any new receivers... like the Dish Network ViP 622?

Sorry alot of questions lol!

yes to the first question.

no to the second.

ExpressVu's continues to grow and will do so even more with the introduction of IPTV later this year, early 2008.

MPEG-4 is going to happen, don't have an exact date.

Don't have firm answers on any of the other questions. Plans change all the time.

Well you must know if the new bird in '09 is replacement or addition!

Oh and do you guys consider the IPTV Bell Condo TV as part of ExpressVu

I usually put that out of the equation.

Bell IPTV has no:

VOD
HD
PVR

IMO, that kills it for a big chunk of consumers.

Bell Condo TV is not IPTV, it is a VDSL service.

Huh?

You mean its NOT like MTS TV or Telus TV?

MTS TV is IPTV.

You mean its done differently

I doubt it

I think its just 2 different names

IPTV or VDSL, same thing:

signals sent to neighbourhood node, and it goes through the copper telephone line to your house and your receiver calls the current channel your watching from the node.. idea is most of the neighbourhood is watching 10-15 channels anyways.

Hi all,

Hope someone can help with this problem. I live in Arizona and have expressvu with a 3100 system. We've been able to stay in touch with our beloved Canada through our bell expressvu. However, after they did the sat switch we lost the usual channels.

A friend told us that we need to get a second dish to point to the 82 sat, which I did. However, we still can not pick up the channels on the following transponders: 7,9,11,21, and 25.

Does anybody know of any fixes for this?

Thanks

When did this happen?

Shortly after they switched the signal, several of my channels went out for some months. But eventually they came back. I'm in north Florida and right on the edge of the beam. That was at least a year ago.

You may have to get a Starchoice system

So Durka, what are some of the new ongoings at ExpressVuÉ

How will VOD be implemented.

And I saw my first interactive commercial, it was one of those cut in BEV commercials on FOX News Channel (happens on CNN, CNN-HLN, etc.) and it was advertising TSN Extra and CBC News Plus, and said Press Select, and I did, and it switched to an interactive info page!

I haven't heard anythingh about VOD lately, not sure what Bell is planning with it.

If you go to channel 400 or 502, you should be able to access TSN Interactive & CBC Interactive, Much cooler then the static info page.

I don't think you can really say whether one is better then the other. They are offer similar benefits, just different technologies.
