Cars: West is the worst

By KEN GIBSON
Motoring Editor

EUROPE has been labelled a write-off when it comes to making reliable cars.

French and Italian models account for NINE of the bottom 11 motors in a top survey.

Even Land Rover’s big selling Freelander model is slated, finishing 97th out of 100 in Auto Express’ poll of 46,000 motorists.

Japanese cars dominated the report with an incredible 11 out of 12 of the most reliable cars.

Honda roared off with the top prize for their S2000 roadster — while their Jazz supermini, CR-V and Accord models were second, fourth and fifth.

Skoda was the only European car to break the Japanese stranglehold — with the Fabia supermini.

The Peugeot 307 had the unenviable distinction of being the most unreliable car — while Renault had two cars in the bottom ten, including the big selling Megane hatchback.

As somone who

cut his teeth on British sports cars. I owned a whole procession of Austin Healeys, Triumps, MGs, I am disappointed to see that not one British car made the list. Is there a British car left or has Ford and GM bought them all?
