I think it's a bad business model because A) potential customers are not coming to you, you are going to them. B) MLM noobs target their friends and family.

I've had many MLM'ers approach me with their products. Each and every time I get the same feeling... to sum it up, it's not a happy feeling.

Alot of MLM schemes have a type of system that forces the MLMer to maintain a level of activity to maintain a certain status. Be it sales or whatever. This forces the MLMer to get some quick sales and usually their immediate friends and family are targets. While this may not be a bad thing, this may have a negative effect on the relationship.

Also, what bothers me the most is that in order to become an MLMer, you need to buy their goods in order to use it in demonstrations or whatever. Usually, this cost is non-refundable.

Look, no matter what business you're in, Marketing is Marketing, any businesses is about marketing. Because Marketing is the King of King, even above real estates. For one, I am an distributor of an MLM/Network Marketing company, but I don't consider myself as an MLMer/Network Marketer, but I'm consider myself as a Direct Marketer just because I'm an experienced marketer!

The reason why many so many people join network marketing and why so many MLMers target the friends, family and their associates (we call it warm market) because they're inexperience in marketing. and , as an experience marketer myself, I don't target any family and friends and associates or any other warm markets.

But I do buy my products from my mlm company because they offered me the quality products at an affordable prices as buying it in wholesales that save me money in the long run when the company compensates me as rebates, so most of the stuff anyone would have to hop on wal-mart or costco or sam's club to get them, I get them at my own business, what's more, I saved more times, saved more gas money and improved my health, wellness and the quality of my lifestyle just by doing it like that, I just loved them and I'm marketing the same concept I used to all my prospects and most of them have converted their livings and applied the concept just like me and some became my downlines, although some them are not looking for making money except being a bustomer, but they're very happy for it!

Finally I only see MLM/Network Marketing as a distribution channel, or delivery service, not an industry, only inexperience Networkers and MLMers see it this way. Even though I'm an MLMer, but I also sell many stuff outside of MLM/Network Marketing companies, but my main focus is to build this one big. if you are not convince enough, check out http://www.freewebs.com/wayx3/

Network marketing is a form of business that most people have the ability, skills and resources to participate in. Many network marketing companies provide skill building workshops or meetings to help you grow. Many network marketing companies provide even more resources for you to utilize.

Network marketing is a business where you and I are the advertisers of their products or services. Network marketing companies do not spend billions of dollars in advertising. You will not see an advertisement on television for MLM products. You will not hear an advertisement on the radio for MLM products. These companies chose to have their products advertised by you and me, and in turn give the money they would have spent in advertising to you and me.

Network marketing is a people business, which utilizes networking concepts. When you look for a traditional job, you usually network with other people to see what is out there. If you don’t network with your employed friends and family you may not hear of your best opportunity. Traditional business owners network with vendors and customers to build their businesses. If they don’t, they could get stuck in a contract with a vendor that is much more costly, or they may not have considered a certain segment of the population as a good marketing avenue. Whether you realize it or not, networking is a part of your daily life, or should be. Network marketing companies simply try to allow you to benefit from your daily networking activities in yet another way.

What Network Marketing Should Not Be

Network marketing should not be a way to bug your friends and family. It should not be a way to take up all of your free time and work you into burnout. It should not be a cult-like experience. It should not be a method to sort out your friends or a measurement for making new ones.

What Network Marketing Should Be

Network marketing should be fun. It should provide a clear path to help yourself and others. It should be a way for you to grow in professional and/or personal areas where you’d like to see growth. It should be a positive experience for you and anyone you approach.

Just a Thought

This is your business! You must work your business the way you feel it needs to be worked. If your company, sponsor or upline asks you to do something you don’t feel comfortable with, ask yourself why. If you don’t have the money, maybe it’s something you can work towards and possibly do later. If it’s something that doesn’t fit your personality, then consider what they’ve said as a topic for brainstorming. Find out if there’s an area within that idea, or closely related to that idea that is more comfortable for you to do. Please do not get into a comfort zone, however. Comfort zones do not provide growth. Allow yourself to grow and you will be able to help others grow as well.

MLM is a concept that sounds good in theroy, buying cheaper products, and make money vs the "BIG STORE" chains,

I agree its product that is missing, a lot of comanies are fly by the night, and are gone in less than a year.

The Big one is AMWAY, that's outlived them all to date.
And although I've never bought any thing from AMWAY, there's a whole lot of people in it.

I've done mlm in my time, I can't even remember what I sold. At the time it was a cheaper way to get into business for myself, and that way my hook, but I took on a prodject that turned into being one of the biggest MLM scams in the USA. No product was the problem. LOL, and I literally stop people in their tracks to stop the speal, if I get approached, that I will never work for a company that I have to "HARD SELL" again.

I use the word "HARD SELL" because your not the avon lady handing out catalogues, your not the Joe's corner store, waiting for customers. Hard selling is running around, finding leads, and convincing people you have a product that is better than what they can buy at Walmart.

Instead I can sit at home in my pj's type on the computer all day, work for myself, and sell products all day to people who are looking for them. That's soft selling. When you have something people want, and they come to you for it, You don't have to Hard sell it.
