Need Freaking Help Excel2007 Non Commercial

Got this from a friend - Every time I open a spread sheet it opens and excel opens behind it - Fills the whole freaking screen - cannot minimize - when i do it goes to a box style on the middle of the screen. Tried for hours to fix this and need help

Best fix is delete MSoft and download open office.

The file would minimize on the middle corner of my screen - Spent hours - hate to give up - Then when it was at the min mode on the screen - I placed the cursor on the corner of the bar - drew it open to the size i wanted - so file is open and the backgound also open excell - for opening other files etc - same as you can widen or narrow a file - worked out - Thank you for your help.
