In the world of Browsers there are two leaders today.

Internet Explorer or Mozilla's Firefox

Yes there is Opera and Googles Chrome but they are way behind the pack.

Which Browser do you prefer to use and do you use the Plug Ins available for BOTH versions of Internet Explorer or Mozilla's Firefox?

Yes Plug Ins are available for Internet Explorer but MSN would like you to believe different.

Mozilla Firefox on the other hand encourages you to use Plug Ins..

Do you use both ?

Please answer the Poll at the top of this Thread..

Alas, the poll appears to be invisible.;-)

I use IE 7 right now(of which I did not know there were add-ons. I just get whatever downloads from Windows Update), but a friend of mine suggested trying Firefox to see if I like it.;-)

ETA: Now I see the poll. It must have been on a time-delay. LOL!

Firefox, no contest, with NoScript and AdBlock Plus extensions. There are a couple of things I have to use Explorer for--Windows Update requires it, and I can't talk to my little wireless router properly with Firefox, there are some Explorer-specific display options in its firmware--or I'd try to remove it entirely. I remain completely unconvinced that Microsoft knows anything useful about security.

Yeah, Firefox without a doubt. If I could pick number two it would be Safari, but there are situations that dictate we use I.E.. My wife does a lot of genealogy research and a lot of those sites demand Internet Explorer.

I find firefox to be a royal pita as a webmaster and visually substandard to IE.

Have you been running Firefox 3.0.6 ?

If so have you update the plug in's . From time to time this is something that doesn't get done so your Adobe Flash or Shockwave don't get the newest version. Java usually self updates so no issues there.. But Flash always seems to be a problem for some reason..

In any case Firefox being a much smaller program and faster to load is usually easier on the Video Card.. Graphics are typically equal if not better on my computer then IE and I run both latest versions..

But again, it always come down to preference..

On my computer it is very different. IE is smoother and Forefox more pixilated.

They say Firefox is the more web compliant browser. However half or more of the internet isn't web compliant so when you look at sites through Firefox there is a much higher chance of seeing a site in a state that it isn't designed to look. IE is more foregiving and doesn't assume every site on the net change their code overnight to be compliant with the html and css gods. If you look through webmaster help forums you mostly see things like "why does my ___ show in IE but not in Firefox". And when looking at site statistics usually the overwhelming majority of users still use IE. So a site owner has to waste time trying to troubleshoot because Firefox couldn't take the time to keep a browser more flexible to commonly used code. I guess I haven't seen much to be impressed with. Maybe future versions will change that but not yet.

Kreskin, back a long time ago web sites focused equally on Netscape equally with IE because Microsft demanded it. Then a a shift happened and web designers a few years ago used to use Dreamweaver ( Adobe ) the biggest program back then to design Webpages profesionally and FrontPage ( Microsoft ) for home amatures and Small businesses. It was also focused on IE because Netscape was owned by AOL and fell out of favour by most who used it and converted to IE out of no real alternative for a short while.

Most of that changed I think about 3 years ago if not 4 when most of the good Engineers ( Software ) left the old Netscape and OAL to form Mozilla from the poor management at both companies and due to Copywrite and fact that the names still existed change to Mozilla Firefox.

Then remember using Opera which was to be the next great Netscape. Problem is it never lived up to expectations beyond the initial launch. I tried three versions of Opera ( which still exists ) but after the all the problems it had I finally gave up on it..

Back to Firefox and Dreamweaver and FrontPage.. Dreamweaver was set up to design web sites focused on IE specifically but high end program.. I know I have the program.. Hence why I was telling you the Flash / Shockwave issues with Firefox. Personally I think that is intentional but try to prove it .. FrontPage came with Office and was geared at home users. Small businesses used it and peeved off Microsoft so they finally took it out of Office this last time around..

Now that Firefox is taking over 21% of the browser market share
I strongly believe that strongly held website control by IE you mention will start to shift and people like Adode are finally make it a lot more friendly for Firefox to self update.

I am not sure what type of computer you use. Are you on a main frame high performace Server or Thin Client ?

Firefox is making a big headway into PC's and MAC's and was a main staple in Linus as well as will soon have a Mobile phone for both Touch and Non-Touch versions. This will increase their presence to force more web sites to have once again have a fully dual presence..

Cheers..

For the life of me I don't understand why Firefox can't consistently display tables and related tags correctly. It's pretty much the oldest html on the internet. It's great that they have gone all compliant with div tags but IE is as well plus IE displays tables correctly. Interesting that you mentioned Netscape because Netscape was another browser that drove webmasters nuts.

Once again you realize your talking tables.. Hence Excel in many cases.. Microsoft was slapped on the hand many times for making it virtually impossible for others to see properly certain programs. Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and so on. I believe they finally caved in and had to allow proper coding. They problem is not Firefox if all other Browsers have the same issue, hence Opera, Google Chrome, Netscape ( if still alive ) and what ever else is out there.

As for the tags I had that problem until I increased my video card to past 1024 X 768. All of a sudden none of that was an issue. It seems web sites aimed at IE are set to resize automatically but do not tell other browsers to do so. Hence in the HTML code there is a tag that says to IE to reset screen size properly.. I had that issue with my own web site.. I resolved that by putting hard text boxes instead of tables :) .. Fixed the problem right away..

I am not sure about your pixelation issue. That could be video related. I have never had anyone else complain about that..

In any case, stay with IE but I can tell you that Firefox is gaining fast for a browser that is not Forced on people.. Just look at the people here who use it..

Cheers.
