My harddrive when running/standby runs at about 35-40degrees celcius, is that normal, or is it too hot. What are the stable temperatures a computer should be running at?

Your hard drive runs at 35-40 or your CPU? Either way, you will not damage an electronic device at that temp. You would need to be hitting 60-70 degrees to run into a problem.
