Remembrance Day ... now a Podcast

THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION has produced a podcast for Remembrance day, designed to encourage a new generation of supporters to pause and remember.

The four-minute Act of Remembrance is followed by a young veteran and war widow talking about what Remembrance means to them.

Recorded at last year's Festival of Remembrance, the podcast features the Queen’s trumpeters playing the Last Post and the Reveille, and readings of two traditional poems, as well the Two Minute Silence itself.

Then 30-year-old David Hart, who was injured in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan in which one of his comrades was killed, and service widow, 34-year-old Anna Aston, whose husband Russell was killed in a mob attack in Iraq, also share their thoughts on Remembrance.

The Legion hopes that those who do not have the time, or feel attracted, to attend a traditional Remembrance ceremony will take time out to download the podcast and pause to reflect on the human cost of war.

The podcast can be downloaded by visiting http://british-legion.blogspot.com

RBL chairman John Hawthornthwaite said: "We wanted to embrace the latest technology to enable us to reach as many people as possible.

"We are hoping that this podcast will bring our Remembrance message to life for young people in particular, bringing home its relevance to our lives today and helping us all to reflect upon the sacrifices made many years ago and still being made today.”
