K - that from the Taipei Times. I don't have any doubt that they are here too, at our forum. And at any political website in the free world.
The underlined sentence caught my eye - have you noticed where people ruin a good thought or discussion by getting off-track, saying something about the author person instead of what they write, or just plain hatred?
Its more than just stopping people from getting ideas and from seeing the truth about 'things', they are also "training" us so we don't do it off-line either. Discussions outside take on the same tones as in the forums because we start to repeat both the rhetoric and the style of spewing hate, dividing people, and distraction from sensitive topics. Notice how we don't speak of torture on the street, like it is taboo, and with the word "conspiracy" we immediately think "paranoid", and there is the suggestion that being critical , in public, of the U.S. Pres. might raise harsh emotions, with visions of violence somewhere in the back of our minds too. We have seen the two together on TV over and over,protestors, violence. We gradually become afriad to speak of him.
So who are these internet police? The government of China hired these 30,000 in the news, but who else is involved?
Well, for example, Nortel!! They supply the software, and you can bet they know what its for, and use it themselves, and peddle it to many nations, and gather what they can from all of them.
Being in that position of information-gatherer that is worth so much these days. Nortel might have clout in the espionage circles. They may get the contract to "wipe out all dissidents" in some area, say north America. Secretly, of course. Perhaps even using computer technology we dont know about, causing cancer with the screesavers or something...

Every government in every country which has the internet has internet police, not only do they monitor sites but if they suspect you of any computer crime they can search your personal files without you even knowing, download movies? They can check, MP3's, Underage Porn, Music Videos, Hacking??? They'll know if they suspect you, you can't hide
