Did anyone hear that the FBI's carnivore project might soon be getting the Axe by the guy incharge of that review board?

I think this would be a good idea, but if it did get axed, the FBI would continue to run it, only now as classified, and they would not only be snooping on those suspected of criminal activities but probably be filtering mass amounts of internet data.

The FBI has done this many times in the past with other projects that got 'shelved', yet they didnt get shelved they continued to thrive with a top secret classification and a gag order on those who knew the projects were still alive.

Granted in the past a few people did speak out, but they didnt live for too long, I doubt in this day and age the FBI would go out actively killing people who betray them on such shelved projects, but one has to wonder if right now there is a second carnivore that the FBI is running secretly already that is processing large amounts of random internet data.

When you think about it its kind of a scary thought....

Kind of, but the FBI can do this to virtually anyone, and knowing the government agencies, they NEVER build just one. This is evident in past projects, they always secretly build at least 2, its cheaper in the long run. This has always been the case, everyone knows its going on, but its 'secret' yeah.. kinda like announcing on CNN how you plan to capture Sadam makes it 'secret' cuz you know he doesnt have a satellite or anything.. twits.
