you guys have me worried now. I can't find anything on shaw.ca about how much ive used but i know ive been heavily using the connection. I assumed something would let me know when i was enar the limit. had no idea i could be building up charges

go to www.dslreports.com and check out the Canadian broadband forum. Should be able to find the info you need.

i just checked out the shaw website. it does say that they can charge u if u go past the limit but it doesnt say how much and there seems to be no way of knowing how much you've used. How can they charge me for something I have no way of regulating???
Imagine at a gas station they told u if u take more than 20L of gas we'll charge you extra but then gave u no indicator on the pump.

AH. found it. there IS a usage tool but you have to find the instructions (which are in an obscure corner of the site) and phone them up and register and all sorts.
what a bunch of tossers. I suspect i've been screwed this month. azureus is shut down now.

Hello,
I am with Telus high speed lite up to 256kpbs download and 128kpbs upload and when I do a speed test it shows approx 256kpbs download and 196kpbs upload. This plan offers 10gb usage and I was told by Telus agent that my upload usage is free. Is this correct?
Also I have been logging my bandwidth usage and noticed alot of days where I have downloaded large files but I am not being charge for the download. Can anyone explain? or Is there a time of day Telus offers free "download time"?

In my case, my family downloads at least 140 gb per month. This is the LEAST.
The most I saw was 170gb per month, download/upload.
So here are answers for your question:
No, if you are told "you got 10 gb dl/up per month" then you are stuck with it, you are not given much more than that.
However, they CHARGE you sometimes for overloading your download/upload limit so be ware of that. My family got ripped off by Bell when clearly our service was Ultra High Speed Internet. Oh..sorry, they changed it to Total Internet and the Bell just changed our service ..er...degraded our service to High Speed Internet. Now, we pay like $80 per month compared to $45 Ultra High Speed Internet.
Also, my family used Cogeco before and if we go over the limit, they just shut us down.
