Ivy League university offers course on Wasting Time on the Internet

The University of Pennsylvania says "distraction, multi-tasking, and aimless drifting is mandatory" for an Internet-based course it will offer next spring.
Students will also be required "to stare at the screen for three hours, only interacting through chat rooms, bots, social media and listservs."
Wasting Time on the Internet is the official name of the course and its goal is to explore how time misspent online can translate into "raw material for creating compelling and emotional works of literature."
On its website, the Ivy League school asks, "Could we write a great novella by plundering our Twitter feed? Could we reframe the internet as the greatest poem ever written? Using our laptops and a Wi-Fi connection as our only materials, this class will focus on the alchemical recuperation of aimless surfing into substantial works of literature."
Paul Goldsmith, an author of 10 books of poetry, will teach the course.
