Northern Ontario,
Can any of you nerds remember how????

Last night my wife was using the old PC downstairs while doing the laundry......Just as she had shut the browsers down and was ready to come upstairs the wireless mouse quits on her.....She hollers to me upstairs to bring a battery down to her...which is normally why a mouse quits, so I bring down a battery and battery tester but after tinkering with it for a few minutes I realized it was dead.
Since it was too late to go to the store to buy a new one....my wife went upstairs to get the mouse out of her notebook, just to shut down the PC...
While she was gone upstairs I remembered how to do it without a mouse....something I hadn't done in about 10 or 12 years.
Not too bad for an old fart to remember something he hasn't done more than a couple of times and that far back.....

You are not the one then, who had a remote door opener on his car keys and had to call a locksmith because the battery in the remote died?

Every computer I've ever owned had a switch on the back of the tower to turn the computer off and another switch
on the front to turn it on...........Maybe I've been lucky...

But it's not the proper way to shut down "windows" and you might loose some files..
There.....I just gave you the first "hint" ;-)

press the WINDOWS button once and the letter U twice.

Windows key + U will bring up the utility manager. Just hit the Windows key and use your keyboard arrows to navigate to Turn Off Computer. And then tab over to Turn Off.

Not all keyboards have a Windows button. The old three finger salute, ctl-alt-del, on XP and older systems brings up a security panel with options you can step through with the tab or arrow keys, and one of the options is to shut down. On Vista and later systems you don't get the shut down option on the list, you get a little shutdown icon on the lower right, which you can also get to with the tab and arrow keys.

Does everyone remember the first time you used a mouse? Was everyone thinking "I'll never get used to this!" or was it just me? Lol

The PC in the basement is XP and the windows button works...
I found out years ago by experimentation while wondering what the hell that button was good for.....

nope...not just you.

My first computer was left in my office for me all unpacked but not put together. It was before the days when they colour coded anything.

I phoned and demanded to know when he was coming to put it together. He told me never and that putting it together was part of learning about computers. I cried in rage the whole while I hooked it up and it took me forever to get the speakers happening. As for the mouse...I cried then too as I wobbled all over the place.

Bastard... :D

That sounds traumatic. :(

Lol.

I didn't cry but I do remember it felt horrible awkward and I was convinced I'd never get used to it.
