Climategate. Adding the 'gate' suffix to some keyword implies a scandal.

Which part of Watergate was scandalous? The inner workings of the DNC, or the surveillance and documentation of the DNC inner workings?

The suffix 'gate' in "Watergate" means nothing in relation to a scandal. The
famous break-in in 1972 happened to take place in the Watergate Hotel
Complex in Washington D.C.

The name of the complex was derived from the terraced steps west of the
Lincoln Memorial that lead down to the Potomac River. The steps were
originally planned as the official reception area for dignitaries arriving in
Washington, D.C., via water taxi from Virginia, but they never served this
function.
