The rapidly melting Arctic is not only a looming climate catastrophe, but new research shows it could be an economic disaster, as well.
In findings published in the journal Nature, economists and polar scientists from the University of Cambridge and Erasmus University Rotterdam found that the ripple effects of climate change in the Arctic — unlocking frozen reserves of methane that speed global warming and cause destructive and costly climactic changes across the planet — could deal a severe blow to the global economy.
The release of methane from thawing permafrost beneath the East Siberian Sea, off northern Russia, alone comes with an average global price tag of $60 trillion in the absence of mitigating action — a figure comparable to the size of the world economy in 2012 (about $70 trillion). The total cost of Arctic change will be much higher.

These numbers are very close to my figures. I've perfromed exhaustive calcualtions based on sketchy data with high uncertainty and come up definitively with a total of $126.7 bazillion.

In the seventies we had people running around talking about an ice age and
some of those people are the same ones preaching global warming. Now
of course we don't usually hear global warming, they call it climate change.
This is about raising money and preaching the green religion the Bishops of
Green as it were. I think we are in for a rough time but the world and its climate
has been changing since the beginning of time.

You are completely correct that the same people who were sounding the alarm about the coming ice age are now AGM advocates. Because not ONE model has been correct they changed the name to "climate change" so that they could blame any unusual climate deviation on this false hypothesis.

In California we are having a wet year. These occur every 10-20 years and so are not unusual. But this one seems a little stronger than usual. And so even though they couldn't even predict this they are blaming it upon AGW.

They have even gone so far as to claim that this sort of rain hasn't occurred for 500 years. California has only had white men and even poorly kept records since 1800 or so. And we didn't keep any real records until 1870 or so. So they couldn't even GUESS at records that were actually kept.

And since we have rains pretty much similar every one or two decades there is no geological records because such things are only reliable in FLAT country in sedimentary deposits. In California there is no real flat ground and no reliable geological records.

Here we have gone from threats of forever drought to massive flooding in days. The media showed an LA rider that is totally cemented in. Overpasses that go over it appear to make it look like a freeway. They showed film of the river raging during the hardest rains in years. And this drain was less than half full. Meantime they were announcing that "freeways are being flooded and washing away." Not in LA they weren't.

The "freeway" being washed away is the coastal road Highway 1 and several others that had been carelessly built to begin with since the object was the view and not the safety of road users.

In a hushed voice, "The death toll due to flooding has reached FIVE!!!" Each of these were of course due to running off of roads into raging rivers or having the, never should have been allowed to be planted, HUGE Eucalyptus trees falling over since their root systems are NOT adequate for these climates.

It is important for Canadians to realize that you too are targets for these people. You two are having more of your tax money being given to "refugees" than to your own retirees. You two are going to discover more and more Canadian jobs handed to illegal aliens because it would be just too horrible to enforce the law.

By the way, Arctic sea ice is fast disappearing. Last month, sea-ice extent hit a record low in the 38-year satellite record.
And...
As the Arctic Ocean’s spring sea-ice cover shrinks, microscopic zooplankton are declining that serious ramifications for the region’s food chain, from fish to seals to polar bears.

If a bunch of anonymous Alt-Reich Internet trolls say that it's a big lie, they can't be wrong, can they?

The true sign of running into the losing end of an argument when the Nazi or Hitler card is played.

Yeah but these guys really are. It's like 1933 again but this time, we have the Internet ...

... and far more and stronger democracies .

Truth will eventually defeat these Alt-Reich a-holes.
