2001 Religion Census

Catholic - 12,936,905
Protestant - 8,654,850
Christian (not included elsewhere) - 780,450
Christian Orthodox - 479,620

22,851 555 people are either Catholic, Protestant, Christian Orthodox, or Christian (not elsewhere included)

Census population of Canada in 2001:

30,007,094

22,851,555 divided by 30,007,094 = 0.76153842154 = 76%

Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_2001_Census
http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/demo30a.htm

All of the groups believe in the Bible. The Bible is the foundation of all those religions I listed.

So, how come we have to fight so much when the majority of us believe in the Bible...

No, 76% of Canadians claim some sort of Church membership. The census does not measure their acceptance or not of their denominational dogmas. Nor does it indicate whether or not these people are REGULAR members who faithfully attend every Mass/ Service and do exactly as their denominations instruct them to do. Nor does it indicate their belief in the Bible, per se.ould that it were so! If the majority of Canadians actually believed in the Bible, it would not even be an issue. why can't you understand that?

There have been television programmes about this subject! Not on FOX, I admit, but on PBS type channels and Vision .

99.8 percent of Turkish nationals refer to themselves as muslim...however, not all those are practicism muslims, or necessarily follow or believe in all the teachings related to islam.

Big deal. A large majority of the planet's population used to think the planet was flat, too.
Another large majority used to think the planet was circled by the sun instead of simply rotating on its axis.

So for those who don't know anything about Statistics, we have to be careful not to use inferential methods without the proper analysis. Those stats West say nothing about the percentage of respondants who: a) identify as Christian without actually attending Church regularly, b) identify as Christian because they don't want the stigma of non-believer, c) identify as Christian without believing all of the bible, and so on.

The only thing these stats say is what percentage of Canadians identify themselves as members of a certain faith.

If you can't see how the two different statements differ, well I suggest you read up on statistical methods and how to interpret said statistics.

What do you define as "believe in the bible"? Believe that it exists? Believe that is is the Word of God? Respectfully, you're a prime example of what we see in the Church all the time, people who just want to use the Bible to support their private theories. If you BELIEVED in the Bible, West, you'd be Catholic and attending Mass on a regular basis. You'd be confessing your sins to your priest and following the teachings of the Church. These are in the Bible too, my friend. Have you been to Church lately?

Anyone can label themselves as anything they want...polls and stats can't distinguish between someone who says they are catholic and someone who follows the catholic teachings.

Gee, I didn't expect West to get chastised I figured if he actually agrees and talks about Bible and Church he deserves some encouragement --maybe show him some Stats that are right or share a good site to visit
