Being a confirmed logical athiest I have never looked upon any arcane writings as being anything other than human generated history or speculation and certainly there have been many countdowns to an imagined apocalypse or judgement day put forward by delusional self-declared prophets over the past 2,000 years. BUT....

Being a confirmed logical athiest I have attempted to gather information and evidence which has supportive data and is testable and verifiable. Fourty years ago during a sojourn in San Francisco my reading of the library determined that the environment and population were fast becoming the crisis that would limit or decrease human well-being, but in the four decades since that personal awakening, the blind wandering of our species toward its own demise has accelerated. We have leaped over the precipice and are in free fall.

Virtually all family, friends and social contacts, in their most candid and thoughtful moments agree with this assessment and have speculated as to what event or set of circumstances will constitute the crash-landing. Is a crash-landing the End Days?....hmmm
Will it be a slow boiling of the frog-in-a-pot global warming? Will it be an economic meltdown brought about by debt defaults or hyper-inflation? Could it be a changing climate induced crop failure causing food shortages? Perhaps a military incursion by an emerging super-power or a threatened aging empire? Perhaps an accidental mutation of a contagious disease or even a planned release of a "population thinner". A nuclear excange, political extremism, food fishery disappearance, water shortage, species extinction...etc, etc.

I put the blame for this nightmare horror upon the system that demands unlimited growth...the throne of corporate capitalism.

What is common with all those possible scenarios is the resultant effect it or they could have upon the social cohesion of our society, our families, communities, nation and planet. Indeed, the most basic ethic of conservative economics, that sees competitive self-interest at the very root of behavior, may well come to pass and see us all at each others throats fighting for survival and the last BigMac. It is a ****ty scenario and it disgusts me that our stupidity, intentional blindness and greed has brought about this decaying corruption, but the question I want to ask members here is...To what extent can we here in Canada insulate ourselves from the gun-toting, racially charged mayhem that could arise south of the 49th? Depending on where you are in Canada and how cohesive the community is and how self sufficient in food production and equitable distribution will determine the level of violence. And here's the kicker for the conservative capitalists....The more you share the safer you'll be.

A pox upon them and all who vote for them.

The reason the Central American Tribesman Society picked 2012 to end the world is because
the clock they were building, ran out of rocks. Some say the end times coming for America,
south of the 49 parallel. Well I see it a little different. The mayhem some are suggesting would
not know where the boarder is as mayhem is mayhem. While I agree we have a bunch of
right wing nut cases carrying guns and playing militia in the woods. But they are sometimes
only the symptom of a problem in reaction to something. Conservative Militias do not take the
proactive stands they react to things, it is something conservatives usually do.
Put smut on TV conservatives react to it, that is just an example.
So what are they reacting too? Ah, they don't like taxes, they don't like medicare, they don't
like affirmative action, they don't like too much welfare, they don't like criticism of religion especially
Christian religion, and the list goes on.
There is a clash here between progress and conservatism. The confusion comes in once we deem
that anything not conservative is progress. Not at all. Some things like smut on TV is not progressive.
and the extreme gun control instituted by the urban socialists, is not progress. There are all kinds of
situations that are not progressive and should be opposed, but when you start wearing uniforms and
running around in the woods with guns like defenders of the faith and the good ole days.
I am afraid chaos will not come about over those issues. The people will rise up when there is nothing
to eat, no fuel for transportation and when they no longer feel safe. The militias will not be the problem
it will be the ordinary hard working individual that will be the leader of that particular brand of chaos.
Even conservatives regard the play station cowboys as nut cases. I am not a conservative but I don't
think we should equate conservative with nutcase, anymore that we should equate social democrat
with communist. If there was to be an uprising, it might take a continental approach rather than just
America, its not that simple.

Haven't we had this thread before? I am more interested in the fact that my astrological sign was shifted backward one sign.

let them have their fun.. because the fun will be when they're all wrong they'll have to explain why it didn't go as they all figured...

Let them have their fun!? That fun is destroying the ecosystem which supports all life forms on this planet. What scenario do you foresee? Shall we hold council huddled in the ruins and then finally pass some judgement upon the perpetrators of the collapse?

Being an atheist I despair the fact there is no God and daily wish there were or that somehow I could create one. I wish for a God who sees privilege as the opposite of justice. I wish for a God who sees those who take more than they need as thieves. I could wish for a God who would level the playing field, take inherited wealth and power from the few and distribute it fairly. As in the Beatitudes I wish for Justice.

And if wishes were fishes we'd all be swimming....I recognize the only God is man created through both design and accident and it is being empowered with omniscience, both all seeing and all knowing. It is an entity conceived through the union of corporate ovum and legislative seed. It is a Supreme Power trained by the family of military industrial uncles who regularly add more eyes and ears to its' sensitivities. It is the internet with surveillance satellites and cameras, ears that monitor conversations and a perfect memory that can recall all e-communications. The Popes and priests who wield this God decide which people or nations are to live or die. They serve their own and are supremely rewarded. Does this God we have created serve Justice, Fairness Truth Compassion or Life?

The conglomeration of corporations that is Capitalism has won supreme power. There is no nation on earth it cannot bring to heel, even the mightiest mercenary nations can be forced to serve and finance its' bidding. And its' one and only rule, tenet and law is Profit.

To those who continue to offer praise and psalms and votes to conservative corporate politics and who have manipulated tax laws to gild the wealthy and impoverish the rest, I ask you to look upon this monster you have created and think of the future you are making for your children.

If only there were a God of Justice....

As far as I understand the Mayan calendar ends in December 2012 due to the fact that they did not perceive their culture moving beyond that particular date - and they were right as the culture and Mayan civilization is long gone.

The world does not end in 2012. It is a crazy end-of-world mania that is stirring up tremendous amounts of negative energy which does affect us and our world.

I have a profound faith in God though not in a religiour sense yet I must agree that God has nothing to do with this prediction of doom.

As I stated from the beginning, I hold no faith in any random predictions of end days whether they come from Aztecs, Revelations, chicken guts, or Sooke.

The point is....The Global Economy Dictator....Faceless Capitalism....is in fact bringing about end times in the fouling of our planet and the corruption of its' people. The Altar, the high ground, the space platforms are ceded to the military industrial corporations who finance and hire Conservative "Free Market" politicians who then use their own corporate media to analyze and manipulate us.

Pull back the curtain and gaze upon the face of evil.

B.S. as far as I'm concerned - the world (as we know it) will come to an end soon enough- it's just a matter of which man destroys first himself or the world.

That 2012 doomsday belief is a western propagated mythology. The Mayans didn't predict the world to end in 2012.

New age crap,
it wasn't until the 1980s that people seriously started to consider that stone age tribesmen in Central America, living among ruins no less, predicted the end of the world in 2012.

It seems like something the later born boomers, in the 1960s and growing up and drinking LSD-contaminated water, could only believe.

Just a note dude. They weren't live among ruins when they made that calendar. They had cities, with a water supply and plenty of food. The ruins came after your ancestors killed them wholesale and gave them your filthy diseases. Don't forget that North and South America were conquered and raped. What you see now is the result of that, not what the people living here at the time would have done I'm sure.

Bingo! As I like to say, there were advanced civilizations in the Americas before the people of the middle east gave up humping their goats in the desert and built their own cities. Europeans were Johnny come late-lies. There was advanced mathematics and astronomy long before the Church of Rome stopped killing people for thinking about math and astronomy.

I find it uncomfortably strange that those who have posted responses here have commented primarily on the 2012 Hollywood Foofah and not 1 has raised any objection at all to to the evidence showing environmental, climate and ecosystem collapse! Can I assume from that silence that it is only me, that I am imagining those threats? Or do I take it that these developments are ok with everyone?

Actually I think the real reason for the silence is that we sense the horror is just too terrible to look upon and we suspect that if we dare acknowledge the face of evil...it is a mirror.

We can be better people, we can enact laws of common interest, Have ethics and courage, sacrifice indulgence and self interest and we can find hope for the future.
