why are the tops soo green all the time?

can there not be some people to take care and show pride in there country and clean such things?

BTW I dont know how long it takes for the tops to turn green or how much it would cost. Id wonder if a volunteer group would go out and make things shine?!

The green is an oxide of copper, which the original roofs were made of, and it's a distinctive feature of our Parliament buildings. If it were polished off, it'd just re-form in a few years, and eventually the copper roof sheathing would be worn thin and have to be replaced. Though I think that recent replacement parts have been made of plywood painted the same green colour as the copper oxide. Cheaper you know. But it's also cheaper to just let the copper weather to green, it takes a very long time to penetrate the whole sheet of copper once the surface layer has oxidized, polishing it off would require much more frequent replacement.

I dig all the copper mesh (pieces) kinda thinking. but hey if it was once a month I could see why it would be a problem but come on can there not be a shine? KP duty or some sort of beautifulness?

I do dig the green effect but why leave our top tattered when it should shine?

how bout antioxidization coating? and once a year buffering?

Because the green stuff protects the copper so it can last the hundred years or so it lasts. Would you go take those nasty stones off the shingles on your own roof?

My understanding is that is the whole point of copper roofing. Once it oxidizes it is maintenance free. Lots of them around the world.

Are you for real?

I have heard some dumb comments on this forum but that has to rank in the top ten.
