Are you in favour of single transferable vote? It's similar to first-past-the-post, except that instead of just putting an x next to the candidate of choice, you number them in order of preference from first to last. This way, strategic voting is no longer necessary, since for example if many Greens pick a liberal for second choice, then if the Green candidate doesn't win, the ballot is automatically passed on to the second choice anyway.

One thing I like about the idea is that, like the first-past-the-post system, you're voting for the candidate, not the party, so that an independent candidate can run too.
