Why doesn't CBC or CTV cover this?

I have often said that the media in this country is biased towards the liberals.This bias shows through not only in what they air and print but also by what they ignore. A case in point. Last week Garret Oledzki,a liberal federal candidate in Saskatchewan resigned,citing the usual,spend more time with his family,etc. Well,that was not the reason. It seems this man was pulling a 'Lionel Hutz" move with his client's wills. He has been suspended by the Saskatchewan Law Society. If he was a conservative,this story would be repeated over and over. So far it has not been mentioned by either network.Fair and balanced,not in Canada. Unfortunately,I cannot upload the file,but if you google 'law society oledzki' you should be able to find it.

Because it's just another corrupt lawyer story involving a con man from one of the two factions of the criminal organization that shares power in our great corporation Canada. It's just not news Wally, Sleezy Lawyer Bilks Clients, that headline is worn out and has been for about seventy-five years. Now if there were a sexual angle combined with the theft then it might be page three.

You missed the point DB. I know there is a lot of sleazy lawyers and politicians.The media should be covering this story. They would be all over it if it was a conservative.Today on ctv's 'Question Period' they gave ten minutes of air time to a guy who is running for a liberal nomination so he could tell the viewers how great the liberals are and how bad Harper is doing. The guy isn't even nominated yet!!

No,I most certainly did not. The liberals were given a free pass when they were in power also.An example,Stockwell Day mixed up the direction of the St.Lawrence River current. The media ran with that . Paul Martin,while adressing veterans,confused Normandy with Norway (twice). That gaffe was barely mentioned.

At the end of the day the media services are a business and will serve up what they know people are interested in. This is a barometer of sorts and now we see people are annoyed with the conservatives. We already know the Liberals are crooks.

They didn't overlook gun control or sponsorship or the Sawinighan handshake or asphalt contracts or the hotel business or.... Looking for conspiracies is just so ... left up to the imagination

CBC and CTV lean off to the Left. If you want to find balanced news, you'd better be
prepared to hunt for it. If this wasn't the case, I would never have stumbled across the
Canadian Content Forums. I stumbled onto these Forums accidentally (but several times,)
while trying to find balanced information on Quebec Separation, the "Green Shift" wealth
distribution program, an a couple of other topics.

There is a radio host, based out of Saskatoon I believe, who was a former Conservative MP
and has no problem taking the Right leaning slant on politics, but he's brushed off as simply
vexatious by most mainstream (Left leaning) news services. This man is John Gormley and
he can be found weekdays (Sasktime) 8:30am-12:30pm at --
and hit the "Listen Live" button at the top of the page. This helps balance off the Left slant
of most media outlets.

Gun control? Sponsorship,egads,a fellow testified that he gave envelopes of money to 12 Montreal-area ridings. The media never thought of asking which ones,gee I bet that kept Dion happy. The Shawinigan handshake was used to prop Chretien up. The hotel business,you have to be kidding. Chretien got away with it and then sicced the mounties on the guy who blew the whistle.Chretien's agreement written on a napkin should have been ridiculed daily.The other party said he didn't want to talk about it,and that was good enough for our press.I really don't know anything about the asphalt contracts,I must have been at the library the day that cbc reported on it.....Ron in Regina,thanks,I occasionaly listen to Gormley. Almost the whole political elite class is criminal IMO. We really don't have any choices.

I was asked when I was 14 to join the elite. I would have had to go to school in Ottawa and learn the "ropes." I know first hand that it is a class system based on nepotism.

Hey, I didn't say it was used to hang 'em. Maybe the PC/Reform/CRAP/Conservative Alliance/Conservatives would do themselves favours by not drawing so much attention to identity changes (nothing suspicious there) and learning which press people they should cozy up to like the tefflon party does....

Yeah,you may be right,except for the fact that taking favours from the press will eventually lead to both sides being compromised.

But getting back to my original post. Doesn't it reek of corruption in the cbc when they neglect a story like this one? There are only a few senate seats and/or governor-general positions available,so why do they report with such bias?

I found mainstream news oretty much follows the views of whoever pulls their strings. That's why Rafe Mair went from radio station to radio station. No-one could make him tow the party line.

Hey, I never heard on any of the news outlets about the time the Conservatives were scripting callers for radio talk shows either. Somebody picked that up on some journalistic outlet but actual coverage was remote to none.

Not everything makes the news and what seems to make both the CBC or CTV is whatever floats to the surface of reporting. Some of the real in-depth coverage of events are things I've had to read about and such things can be in regards to some very relevant issues in the world. Issues that sometimes only gets a blurb on either station or just basic reporting without any meat which then gets put on a loop.

The Russian-Georgia conflict being a very good example. Much of what is regurgitated is either what the west is trying to promote politically (the political spin), or they end up reporting with a popular outlook rather than a more truthful unpopular perspective. For example I really wonder how many realized initially that it was the Georgian side which had pulled the trigger and started military action in the first place which kicked it into a war?

This whole 'Liberal Bias' is just one huge sorry excuse by these lame politicians not to be able to simply stand on defensible good leadership. I've seen all parties hounded by the media. Furthermore 70% of the people in this country don't subscribe to Harper's right-wing ideologies. So if he governs from the political right, you can't fault the Canadian perspective either from critiquing him from a center political perspective. Same reason the NDP have a hard time breaking through to mainstream as to an acceptable viewpoint of Canadian politics. Unless the NDP for example were able to shift popular political thought more to the left, then I bet you the media would move that center perspective towards that direction to re-align themselves as best they can to the Canadian consenus.

As for Harper, he won a minority government and somebody needs to remind him of that. The whole point of good leadership in a minority government is consensus building between the various parties in government. That is because the makeup of a minority government suggests a vote by Canadians that do not solely rest on the political policies of one party's viewpoint. However Harper acts like he owns the political direction of this country and his supporters are just as arrogant at ramming their viewpoints down the rest of Canadian's throats.

So no big conspiracy with the media. It's just what you get with a bunch of sour grapes that cry like babies at the messenger because they can't control the spotlight they wanted for themselves when they can't help but keep screwing up or showing us how corrupt and incompetent they really are. And somehow while being in a minority perspective they think the majority should view the issues the way they do by default. What a bunch of losers.

Besides, the local media here (I live in the same city Oledzki does, and in fact I know him) did cover this, and there was a front page piece in this morning's newspaper which is, to put it gently, not known for its liberal, or Liberal, biases. Liberals and conservatives always seem to think the media are biased in favour of the other guys, and they're both right, and they're both wrong. Why would anyone expect it to be a national story anyway? A largely unknown candidate in the backwater of Saskatchewan (at least that's probably how the Toronto-based media would view it) is alleged to have been caught with his fingers in the cookie jar, there's no election campaign going on, at least not officially, and there are plenty of more important things to occupy the national media. No big deal.
