My father has passed away. We have never known much about his background, strangely enough. As time goes on we're suspecting he was born in a Metis family. I mentioned this to a friend. The only thing he said was "hey cool, get your card and don't pay taxes". For the first time in my life I actually felt like the recipient of a minority comment, and it felt strange. It made me wonder if I should even bother finding out.

Wow Kreskin - I would want to know. That need to know my roots would insist upon it. Our family history is what shaped them, and ultimately us. Ya, I'd look into it more.
Re: the minority comment, I experienced comments and attitude against the English when I was in Quebec - nothing on the scale as what many minorities deal with, but it was enough of a taste to make me stop in my tracks and notice the experience.

Metis don't get all the perks the full bloods do, but who cares. There is a whole side of the family tree there to be explored. You don't have to wear it like a pity hat, take it, put it with who you are and revel in the fact that you have found one more tie that binds you to this beautiful country.
It won't change who or what you are, it will add to you.
Oh btw...Now you know how I feel!!! LOL...how did you like it? Try that almost 365 days of the year.

Any region naturally elects people they feel will represent them well in politics. To try to deny them that is discriminatory, and would be suppressing their democratic rights. You seem awfully quick to try to prevent the rights of those you don't agree with. That's the trait of a bigot.
If you want freedom of representation for people, it has to be even for those you disagree with.

I don't post much but I have to take issue with this as a Saskatchewan resident. I don't know who you're personally speaking to but to make a broad generalization of Saskatchewanians on this basis is quite wrong. I'm not going to play 100% innocent but I know I've never said anything on the level the Lukiwski did.
As far as the topic at hand goes, to the OP, if Harper and the whole party have to fall on the sword for one MP's dumb words, then I guess so do the Liberals for this guy:
