I'm inclined to agree with Durka. I haven't read either memoir, and I don't plan to. I'm really not interested in reading whatever self-serving crap they're likely to dish out, and the reviews I've read of the two books so far suggest that's pretty much all they are. I might borrow them from the library when they show up there, but I'm not going to buy them. I really don't care how great those guys think they are. Trudeau, while I strongly disagreed with a lot of what he did, at least had something deep on his mind; I don't think Mulroney or Chretien ever had a deep thought in their lives.

J.C. was very hard to understand whenever he spoke to the nation[probably the secret to his longevity in politics-no one knew just what he was muttering!], so his book could be of interest to anyone who cares. I don't. if anyone wants a copy of either one, they will be going for next to nothing on the remainder tables shortly.

I think Chretien's book is better, because he's managed to use it to further destroy his own party's chances, because his hatred of Martin is so great that he cannot get over it.

Mulroney's book is good because he's a deluded alchoholic, and that's always fun, but he doesn't seem to be out to destroy his party's future, so it's not the winner.

Personally, I think copies of both books should be piled by the thousands in a public square, Mulroney and Chretien led in blindfolded and cuffed, and let the people "book" them to death.

It would just be such a multicultural affair........
