It's official now. After weeks of speculation, Harper has prorogued Parliament. With this announcement, renewed speculation of non-confidence votes and an ensuing fall election. After all the posturing in Ottawa, it seems it was all for not.

Some legislation which will be dropped:
C-30 Clean Air Act
C-32 Impaired driving
C-35 Reverse onus on bail hearings
C-43 Consultation with electors for preferences of senate appointees
C-45 Sustainable fisheries
C-51 Nunavik land claims
C-54 Elections Act, accountability with respect to loans
C-55 Elections Act, expanded voting opportunities and amendment to Referendum Act
and more left on the floor after the chop job

In a release today Harper said he was:
Quote:

pleased to report that Canada is united, our government is clean and our economy is strong. Now it’s time to launch the next phase of our mandate...
The First Session of the 39th Parliament was exceptionally productive, especially for a Government in a minority situation...
We delivered on all the major commitments we made to Canadians during the 2006 election

Another spin around the block...

Conservatives are creeps...these are not even conservatives...they are bigoted left over reform party hanger on'rs and a guy that turned his back on the official party to join up with the new alliance...peter Mcflake....i mean this guy bailed and lied to his own people.....the last true statesman Joe Clark shunned the creep.....then ya got all these aisan lackeies that don't realize they are treated as uncle toms in the alliance party...filling in seats and trying to pretend they are not being used by bigots

People that support these vermin are lacking in moral fibre..to say anything of intelligence....oh they are alright in a pinch if ya need bodies to fill a hockey game or some mold filled rumage sale in some lost church...but thats it.....the prime minister has done nothing but campaign since he got in due to a loss by the only TRUE CANADADIAN party the LIBERALS...the only time in our great history the tories ever got in was when the LIBERALS lost an election...this time the alliance party somehow got the media on their side via globe media and lied about tje LIBERALS and allowed this vermin to get in.......

they won't ever get in...they cursed themselves with Mike Harris filler for the ministries and this spelled doom...the moron thats in health ....whats his name...the guy that ruined ontario health care.....and then the flaherty lier guy,,,,,

Dion will rise to the occasion and save us all from this degradation in our government....LIBERALS

Why doesn't he just do what he really wants and declare himself the uncontested ruler of Canada. If we all continue to follow him like sheep he'll be right, if we rise up and throw him and his pack of kiss-asses out of our Parliment, he'll know he read us wrong.

Either way it's better than this sick political dance he's been leading the country through since he took office.

I remember a promise about working with the other parties too. I also thought "debating in good faith" was implicit.

All this really goes to show is that the accountability promise was not in fact followed through on. Except on some extremely narrow definition of accountable.

Well you have to admit that the people got what they voted for. A clear message has been sent to parliament, and a clear message has been sent to the Liberal Party of Canada. And that message is, We the People are not so bright.

If we ran a business the way we run our government we would be selling break in tools to burglars and making monthly payments to those that rob us.

It is a great big waste of time and effort and money on our parts. Perhaps they should forfeit some of their pay... The house leader Peter Van Loan today just announced that the government will seek to revive most of the bills that will die, except the clean air act. Cheap political tricks, kill the thorny bill that highlighted one of their weaknesses, take more time off to interfere in more provincial elections, basically campaigning for the upcoming federal election.

I think it would be a far less painful experience if the House of Commons rejected the throne speech.
