Every country becomes a hybrid. The trick is to offer programs to the public that will benefit and not indenture it. The administration of social welfare programs, if properly policed, can add greatly to a country's wellbeing. Unpoliced, they can bankrupt it.

I annoint this to be the best post in this whole thread.

IMHO.

What a stupid response. Tamarin, the monkey, has made thousands of posts on various posting boards since the mid '90's. He is definitely not a woman.
Well, you're ok in spite of that. :P

I keep watching for a political movement based on bringing true and needed reforms but it seems there are few that are respected, most seem to get labelled rather quickly as extremist mumbo jumbo. A strong leader is needed to get this thing off the ground.

I agree, unpoliced or unregulated capitalism has virtually destroyed the planet, so policys need maintenance or they rust and squeak.

Somebody's been drinking from the "deluded and irrational" well again.
Now there is a very well thought out response. This group of articles are Canadian Politcal history from 1958. What part of it can you refrute?

It is time for Canada to petition the European Union for membership.

The Economist published the letter below in the Letters section in the May 14, 2005 issue of the Economist.
I hope that this letter encourages a meaningful dialogue on the subject between Europeans and Canadians. I invite readers to email their comments to me directly at Dan@DanTaylor.com.

Letters
Hi,
I hope that the following idea, namely that Canada join the EU, becomes a movement and a then a reality. While we are not a part of Europe, the Arctic waterways will shorten the distance and then Iceland and Greenland are sort of stepping stones, as well.
Please note the following articles. What do you think?

March 03, 2005
GERMAN PAPERS
It's Time For Canada to Join the EU, article from Der Spiegal

and

May 14th 2005
From Economist.com

Canada belongs in Europe
SIR – I believe that the citizens of the European Union would be best served if the next expansion of the EU was not to the east but rather to the west, to incorporate Canada (“Now that we are all bundled inside, let's shut the door”, April 30th). While this notion might seem odd at first, a little investigation would show that the vast majority of Canadians claim ancestry from the nations of the EU and Canada's cultural, social and economic policies are very similar to those of Europe. Access to NAFTA as well as Canada's natural resources, such as oil and gas, holds obvious advantages for our European brethren. Equally, Canada's easy access to Europe would be just as beneficial to Canada. It is time for Canada to petition the EU for membership. The advantages for both parties are too significant to ignore.

Well, CdnBear, I read a complete novel at least every 2 days and I couldn't slog through those first posts. Felt like I was back in high school social studies. Blech. Sum it up in a few paragraphs and more of us will pay attention. Or not. Just letting you know that some of us can't bring ourselves to read something that takes that many words to make a point we're probably not going to agree with anyway. ~shrug~

Just sayin ...

Oh, and DarkBeaver, I thought our Tamarin was a chick as well. heehee ... sorry Tamarin. I get that all the time too since "Cosmo" isn't gender specific.

When I posted this article...Years ago, lol (is that long enough to have read it?)...I thought it was quite interesting, I just wanted to share it...I wasn't actually trying to make a statement or shot at any one political party...In fact, this article pretty much sums up how I feel about Canadian politicians.

But nug was was just being an ass... IMHO...He doesn't like my stance on Natives or Albertans that get bit by bats and don't seek medical attention.

Annalisa , what vintrigues me is your choice of your posting name. I might be dislexic .....better still dirty minded but i see annal in your name......aww man maybe you didn't give it much thought.
As for asssociating with bigger communities than ourselves here. We are always going to get a short end of something......there are things that are surfacing that we are slowly realizing with the agreements we already have.....want to make it worst?......
