Now I would like you all to guess how many ethnic groups are living within Canada at this very moment. Now there could be a few more or a few less but it is roughly around a number. So guess:

Hint; only one other nation has as many ethnic groups within its border. They are basically indigenous though while ours is through immigration. if you can guess the name of that country you will get bonus points.

The problem with Ethnic Groups, is who decides whats an ethnic group?

Canada has a real problem admitting different canadian regions are different ethnicities.

Ie.) Newfoundlanders are more deserving of being a seperate Ethnicity, than Marsh Arabs are from Red Sea Arabs.

You make a good point. Actually, Newfoundlander is counted as an ethnic group in this idea. And Arab is thought of as Arab, not Red Sea Arabs or other. However, once you get down to Kurd and Assyrian that is a bit of a different.

According to Statcan 13% of the population identify them selves as visible minorities. Get your numbers backwards?

http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/050322/d050322b.htm

In 2001, 13% of the population identified themselves as belonging to a visible minority group as defined in the Employment Equity Act.

Caucasian = White to light skin pigmentation. And that's not 13.4%.

DurkaDurka got it right. Over 85% of the Canadian population is lily white. Did you know that? I didn't until recently.

And can anyone quess the country that has as many ethnic groups within its borders. And then I will give you the answer.

At least most of you are better than my sister and father, they were way off, but my mom got it 1 off. She had a number that was one ethnic group less.

That is correct, English, Irish, Dutch, Norweigan, Icelandic, and smaller groups within that. Maybe they don't associate with the majority but with a minority like Gaelic peoples and Sami and Hungarians and others.

Okay there are some very good guesses going on with regards to the ethnic groups in Canada. But no one has attempted the second question.

Try for that as well.
