Frozen Canuck if you lost your son or daughter for a cause that will never be right, in silence you may doubt any military mission that has the signature of blood, especial BLOOD FOR OIL. The rest if it makes you feel good defending aggression on foreign soil that is your entire prerogative but don’t ask me to send my son to die for a self-serving cause like oil. Capeess?

The Afghanistan or Iraqi war is the same thing, the west is fitting the east, and it is a religious war which will go on for thousands of years to come.
Like it or not the US or Canada doesn’t have the resources to constantly fighting wars of stupidity around the globe. Vietnam made America look stupid at the end of that conflict.
There are families who have lost loved ones in Afghanistan who still believe in the mission being done over there. Do not assume that people with a different viewpoint don't have a personal stake involved.

Your blood for oil rhetoric might may you feel better, but the fact is the Afghani government and people have noticed and appreciated Canada's efforts in helping with the security and rebuilding of that country, and just several months ago expressed concern that Canada might pull out. They did not want Canadian troops to leave. To them, it hardly seems like Canada is bent on imperialistic conquest. Perhaps you know the situation better than they do, though...

And I wouldn't ask your son to do anything. If he is serving, or has served in Afghanistan, or any place else, it is because he enlisted in the military of his own free will, and was sent by his government to carry out a mission deemed important by Canada, many other nations in the world, as well as Afghanistan itself.

Maybe you can remind me again of exactly all these wars around the world Canada is constantly fighting. Like you yourself pointed out, Canada hardly has the resources.
Even though the Afghani people appreciate us Canadians being there, the fact remains that one day soon we have to pull out. Please explain what will happen after all the foreign troops pull completely out. Do you think for a minute that soon after the foreign troops leave, the fanatics will not miss a hart beet before they are back in business? Of-course, that is exactly what will happened. The allied forces will soon run out of recourses and the whole exercise becomes a stupid useless investment of human energy. Unfotunatly the end result, dead soldiers will be coming back.

Afganistain requests Canada fight the Taliban, and we should. Though I also feel, Afganistan should handle Afganistan I also feel that Canada has a job to help where it is needed. We are also doing a good job there at the moment, we have the Taliban on the run again, the only problem is its becoming more popular for the afgani men to "defend" their country, though this is not an invasion but more of a Invatation fromt he Afgan government, the Taliban have no problem spinning the fact that their are western troops on their land, and the Taliban use that to make thier cause to other afgan men.
