If it isn't obvious enough yet I'll say it outright. Harper needs to tank Parliament before the Fiscal Update. My gonads told me this weeks ago but its nice to hear it from someone with credentials.

So what's a government to do? Force the opposition's hand over the Lumber Deal before the update seems to be the current ticket. Problem is, Harper hasn't taken into account one last wildcard that may well prevent the bill from ever reaching the floor...

But there is not enough spare cash in any one of those years to fund the full annual cost of a GST cut, because another Tory election pledge means that 60 per cent of that $25.9-billion will be used to pay off the national debt at a rate of $3-billion a year...
