OTTAWA (CP) - Ujjal Dosanjh is throwing his support behind Bob Rae, a fellow onetime NDP premier, for the federal Liberal leadership.

--

Both Rae and Dosanjh came from disasterous terms in provincial NDP governments and both left the NDP to join the Liberals. The Liberal party needs a lot of work, but electing Bob Rae will not get them votes in Ontario.

True, but Dosanjh was only premier for a short while. Glen Clark is the one who lead the NDP to disaster. Also, B.C. doesn't have a Conservative Party, just the liberals and NDP. The liberals tend to be the more "right wing" and NDP "left wing" so saying that he switched parties would be a bit unfair since federal and provincial parties are quite different.

Hi gc

The so-called liberal party in B.C. is a mixture of Reform, Conservatives, Social Credit, with a few liberals thrown in. The result was a party far to the right of any liberal party. This party was initially put together as a "beat the NDP party". They certainly did that. Too well some would say.

Exactly. Therefore One can not blame Dosanjh for not wanting to join the B.C. liberals.

Dosingh should be in handcuffs for his attempt to bribe Grewal. Who can take that clown seriously?

True, but then Harper should be in handcuffs for trying to alter the tapes.

Surely Mike, you're not going to defend that spongehead Grewal. Harper and all the conservatives would be better off if they washed all traces of Grewal out of the party.

Let me clarify, then juan: Dosingh should be handcuffed to Grewal someplace unpleasant. And the altering of the tapes should be investigated.

Dosingh has about as much credibility as the candidate of preteens everywhere - Joe Volpe. Rae should run away from that 'endorsement' as fast as possible.

I would agree that the Conservative Party of Canada¹ should avoid any association with Mr. Gurmont Grewal whatsoever. As for the other sub-topic here, if given the choice between The Honourable Ujjal Dosanjh, P.C., M.P., the Member for Vancouver Centre and the Defence Critic for Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition and The Honourable Bob Rae, P.C., O.C., I would choose Mr. Dosanjh anytime.

If those were the only choices, then I would move to Quebec and vote Bloc.

If they were MY only choices, I would actively support and promote Alberta separatism. Truly. I would also actively support and promote Quebec separatism. Again, truly.

Actually, thinking about the title to this thread, it dawned on me that the former ND'rs were simply following Trudeaus lead. Can't win with the NDP, so find a party you can win with. Thankfully for those of us on the right, these lefty guys picked the Liberals.

They still won't win!!!!!!!

I would love to see the liberal party shoot really left, it would mean Conservative Majority for many years to come.

Its interesting that everybodys classifying him as an NDP or ex-NDP, yet Bob Rae was a Liberal before he even became an NDP. Bob Rae used to campaign for Pierre Trudeau and another Liberal cabinet minister. He was always left wing and will always remain left wing in any party he goes to. He has had close ties with the Liberal Party from a young age and I dont think his credibility is questioned if he runs for the leadership. He may not win but I still think he would make a good critic on the Liberal team.
