I am doing a poll to see what federal party everyone here supports. I have tried doing this twice now, but people never participate. Thanks!

I am currently undecided.

I always have a problem with questions like this. I find in myself a curious mixture of right and left, which might explain my user name. It's the Latin words for Right Left. Fiscally I tend to be extremely conservative: don't you dare piss away my hard-earned tax dollars on ill-considered, dysfunctional projects that go nowhere, my message to my political leaders is, it's your business to make sure I'm getting value for money on projects and programs that really matter, and if you fail at that I'm going to hold your feet to the fire so close it'll burn your toes off. Socially I come down on the left: we have a duty to care for the poor, the disenfranchised, the powerless, and if we fail at that and continue to let large numbers of our citizens live in abject poverty and deprivation, we can't really call ourselves civilized.

So I can't vote in this poll. I don't really like any of the options available. Not even "Other" covers it, it's too vague. I like the Conservative Party's fiscal attitude, I like the NDP's social attitude, and if they could somehow come together into a fiscally disciplined and socially responsible and caring organization, I'd vote for that in a heartbeat.

The Liberals try to do that, but they've lost their way and abandoned principle for expediency. When I vote (and I always do, at every opportunity: you don't vote, you can't bitch), I vote on what I perceive to be the quality of the candidates, without regard for their political affiliation.

Agree with you Dexter^^

I rather not be influenced on past affiliation and possible policy rhetoric. Instead I prefer to consider the ability of a candidate in achieving their goals and making good on their promises, even if those goals may not be absolutely ideal nor the solution to every problem.

Why don't you guys vote undecided?

Well, maybe: I guess I am undecided in a sense. I certainly haven't decided who will get my vote!

centrist socially, exactly like Harper

I call bullshit. If he were socially in the center, he wouldn't be trying to attack the same-sex types. Centrist ideology dictates keeping the state out of peoples' lives, not forcing a party's religious beliefs upon the rest of the country. If you think for a second that Harper is a social centrist, you need to ask youself how exactly do the Libs and NDP manage to get people to not vote for the Cons. Believe me, it generally isn't on fiscal issues.

As for the poll question, I am not undecided, but I do not support any particular political party. I vote with the issues. I feel that our social and fiscal freedom is most important, in that order. That of course knocks out the Conservative Party of Canada as an option. It also gets rid of the Libs and the NDP, unfortunately.

And since none of the less mainstream parties run in my riding ( I live in Calgary, can't say that I'm surprised that they don't want to even try ), I tend to vote for who I dislike least.

Sorry LRG, I don't see it that way. What religion is Harper trying to foist on us? And how is having an open and free vote on SSM a bad thing? Surely you can count, and so can Steve, and he knows that in a minority government, the vote will fail. But he allowed the vote, and will move on. Pretty smart, IMO.

You say that you have a problem when parties arbitrarily decide things like SSM, but did not the LIBS do exactly the same thing, and totally ignored those who disagreed with it? I don't want a debate on SSM, nothing is to be gained, but when you make statements, you have to be fair. Harper said he would allow a free vote, and now he is going to do it. How can that be a bad thing in a democratic country? And yes, I am prepared to live with the result, no matter what.

Well blue, we don't know some of the Liberals who were elected, it wasn't just the cons who voted against same-sex marriage last time. And this vote is to just look at it, what if the Libs have enough to vote to ensure that a look at the Same-Sex marriage occurs ensuring that the blame falls on Harper.
