Whats all this I hear about the Liberals and their great economy with 8 balanced budgets? Sure they did a satisfactory job depending on how you look at it but....
Honestly when the Liberals came in 1993, they had all the ingredients they needed to balance the budgets. First of all one must be aware of the economic times worldwide during the Mulroney years. Also Mulroney put into place the GST which is the reason the Liberals were able to eventually balance the budgets. (funny how Cheretien campigned against the GST, but learned that it was vital to balancing the budget). What about the FreeTrade agreement (NAFTA), signed by Mulroney, and handed to the Liberal Party on a silver platter. This trade agreement sees billions in trade surplus in Canada's favor.
