The officer behind the one who fired the shots could clearly see that it was a stick so that defence is extremely shallow.

What was he doing carrying a stick? Doing his best impression of Yoda? He was intending on hitting someone with it was he not?

The cop behind him who saw that it was a stick didn't fire the shot, the cop that didn't realize he was carrying a stick did.

Since there had already been a clash between a unit of police officers and the natives, after the police almost beat a native band councillor to death, Dudley was holding a stick.

His brother was on the bus that the police opened fire on so he was concerned about his brother.

However, if a police man stood in his way or was nearby I am sure that he would have taken a swing at him no doubt.

However, I do think he was more concerned about his family instead of attacking police officers.

Last time a cop pulled me over I stopped and listened to him.
This type of protest is not the way we work here in Canada.

It has taken place all the time by Native people in Canada. Because when they have no respect for the government or the police they will do whatever they can.

Oka, Ipperwash, Haida, Vancouver Island, Calgary, (military bases), and others.

So because they claim to have no respect for the Government; they should be allowed to use violent means to obtain their ends? I don't buy that.

Shooting was overkill in dealing with Dudley George, I agree. But he still shouldn't have been coming after a cop with a stick. The police officer may have thought it was a gun, panicked, and fired. he's not a model police officer, no, but neither is he a monster.

The only thing that is proved here is that high-tension night time confrontations often end in violence.

By that definition these groups certainly need to be under the eyes of our national security and intelligence agencies.
