The ONLY qualifications to run for ANY public office is being honest and knowing the difference between right and wrong.

NO OTHER QUALIFICATION ARE NECESSARY, in fact ANY OTHER qualifications are IRRELEVANT for the job.

ok.........I can think of at least two three yr olds that are honest and know the difference between right and wrong. The being "honest" one rules out just about every adult that went to "politicians" school. Would venture that being DIShonest is the main criteria...but you never find it listed on their CV.

.....on second thought, You gotta be kidding.

what ever happened to your demands for competency?

Competency is what is demanded and expected from non-elected hired public officials. The elected are paid to oversee them by applying honesty and knowing the difference between right and wrong.

In fact most two and three year olds would do a better job than many politicians in applying honesty and understanding the right and wrong in public decisions.

so the leaders of the country can be complete idiots? do you endorse the shrub then? *laughs hysterically*

Many politicians pretend to be idiots to hide their dishonesty.

If they are of average intelegence and honestly apply their public authoroty based on what is basically right and wrong this is enough for them under our model of governing.

Well ... besides having to be of the age of majority, and so on and so forth ... yeah, honesty and integrity are always good things in an elected public officer. However, one must keep in mind that our public officers must also know how the current system works. They must be good public speakers; they must be competent.

Edit Corrected a typo.

perhaps it is a new phenomena brought in by the pop culture of things like "the simpsons"? (not that homer was the first role-model idiot released on the masses).

i find people are frightened by intelligent folk. since being elected requires being accepted.... well, you get the idea. the electorate would shun a true intellectual leader in favor of a dunderhead that tells good jokes.

If that is the case though, we must place the blame on the populace.

interesting point CK........about a populous being intimidated by inelligence. One has to assume it depends on how this "cerebrally" capable individual handles himself. If the intelligence is accompanied by lofty arrogance .......NOT GOOD....and people will reject this quite quickly.

(back to the people skills.;-)

You speak as if elected representatives formulate, justify and make decisions based on their inteligence and personal competence.

This is as far from reality as you can get. Politicians vote on decisions other people mostly professionals and experts recommnend.

Their only function is to review the recommendations and vote yes or no to them.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see if the people making recommendations have integrity and are giving legitimate advice.

Politicians rarely understand a fraction of 1% of the decisions they vote on and never do have any direct input in the decisions that would requires them to have any technical or administrative capabilities or education.

Anyone can evaluate decisions people recommend to them and make honest decisions based on the right or wrong of it, if they so choose.

However, politicians make decisions based on politically self-serving reasons and not based on what is right or wrong for the people.

i think you are missing the facts that without some background a person can be easily deceived by presentation and that "right" is a matter of perspective.

i know i probably should not say this to you IAC given your insistance without providing evidence of the corruption of the system and your insistance of there being some absolute "right" and "wrong", but oh well.
