The word on the street is that that the Conservatives are trying to hijack the image of Tommy Douglas in an effort to repair their reputation, especially in the field of health care. None other than Stockwell "Doris" Day has been quoting Tommy and making reference to him...trying to paint Tommy as one of theirs.

Now, most of us understand that the Conservatives are, by their very nature, decrepit little gits who would steal from their own starving grandmothers if they thought it would get them a vote or turn a profit for their corporate supporters. This is unacceptable though. Tommy Douglas started the CCF/NDP. He stood against everything that greedy pricks like Day and Harper consider to be their strong points.

Just to make that clear to the radical right who are trying to steal Tommy's name and reputation, here's a little something:

The following text from a 1982 speech of my father is in response to Premier Klein and others who would have us believe that Tommy Douglas had a limited vision for the future of Medicare. He saw much further than most governments in Canada today.

- Shirley Douglas, Spokesperson
Canadian Health Coaltion

Devine did do that. He was a nasty bastard who almost destroyed Saskatchewan. Nothing great about him or the criminals who sat in his cabinet. Time to shut these right-wing freaks down.

I always loved it when you'd tell the socialists "Tommy Douglas would vote Tory if he were alive today." You could just see their temperatures rising. Their faces would get all red. Veins would stick out on their heads. Lips would purse and steam would start coming out of their ears, then they'd go on these ten minute diatribes. That was always funny.

Yeah, because you hate Canada. What the hell are you even doing on a Canadian board?

I went to a few Young NDP conventions back in the day. I popped into a few NDP pubs in University. There were some cool young Socialists but there was more than a fair share of young revolutionaries, the ones who studied the handbook of 400 policies to be debated diligently and solemnly the next day, the ones who hated those who stood before them on the road to Damascus, the True Believers who would save the world from the evil capitalists. The world was formed in black and white and stereotypes had to be reinforced. I was the enemy. No courtesy was broached to the likes of me. Tolerance and civility was to be crushed because the world needed to be saved. Its good to see that mentality is alive and well.

Its the internet, Rev, don't have to be Canadian to be here. I think you told me that once when I said you would miss me if I moved to the States.

Damn that petard anyway.

So what? We got beat up at a Reform meeting because my friend objected to this fat bastard from PA using the word "paki" over and over again.

No, but he hates Canada so much that he moved to Florida and he wants to come to a Canadian board and tell us how stupid we are.

I think you told me that once when I said you would miss me if I moved to the States.

I was being polite. What I really meant was that if you moved to Amerika you'd fit right in and I'd be happy to see you go.

You guys have dragged this off-topic though, so let's back on topic, shall we? Why the hell are the Conservatives trying to steal Tommy Douglas' name after spending all of their time and energy trying to destroy his legacy?

Ah yes, the intolerance of the self professed tolerant group.

This is the biggest lie this group promotes, and is reinforced daily on this forum. No debate, just insults and marginalization of any other viewpoint other than the socialist mantra: Government is good, profit and capitalism bad.

You guys are hilarious. you'll say anything to avoid discussing the fact that the Conservatives are so desperate to get elected that they are trying to steal the name of a man they have worked against forever.

To be honest with you, I have not heard anything about what you are talking about. I thought this was one of the voices in the head threads.
