RE: Canada to counter Pat

Those laws don't apply south of the border, Gonzo.

As for the Martin government taking any effectual action to keep our information secret...I'm not holding my breath. They really don't care who has information about Canadians, or what that information is. If they did they would have taken action long ago.

Keep all that in mind when the next census shows up in your mailbox. As long as the bastards at Lockheed Martin have that contract, I'm not telling them how many toilets I have. F*** 'em.

They are leading Canadians into a feeling of false sence of security about the contracts they enter into rather than not entering into contracts that place Canadians at risk.

No contract entered into by an American company can supercede the legislation of that country.

Gonzo

Canadian Privacy legislation targets personal information being exchanged between corporate entities and does not restrict the flow from corporate to government.

Under the Patriot Act it is illegal for US companies not to share data with the US government if asked for it. It makes no difference if they collected that data in Canada or if the computer it is stored in is on this side of the border.

Given the Bush adminisration's penchant for making secret enemies lists that keep people off of planes and from crossing the border, giving your information to any company that has an American connection is not a good idea.

The Canadian government, knowing full well that is the case, hired Lockheed Martin to do the 2006 census.
