Canadians Moving to the US

Hi,

My name is Matt and I work at a news and entertainment television program based in New York.

In the aftermath of our last election many Americans are saying they're dismayed about the rightward shift their country is taking and that they want to move to Canada.

I'm interested in speaking with Canadians who are disenchanted with the more liberal attitudes of their country and are thinking of moving to the more conservative US.

Any advice or guidance anyone could offer me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi mattmoses,

Firstly, welcome to Canadian Content.

I'm honestly not aware of many Canadians who are willing to move to the United States for political reasons. I live in Toronto, Ontario and I personally have a somewhat conservative family. My entire family is European, however, so using them as an example isn't exactly ideal.

The primary reason I've heard of Canadians wanting to move south of the 49th parallel is jobs and money, especially for professional and scientific careers.

I am going to send you a link to another web site I know of, but be aware, these are not by any means typical "right wing" Canadians. The only ones I know of who would move to the United States specifically for political reasons would be considered as Right-Wing extremists by Americans and possibly "Psychos" by average Europeans or Canadians.

Best of luck with your study.

You might want to go to canadaka.net and look up a guy who goes by the name Godz46, mattmoses. He hates pretty much everything this country stands for.

Canada's economy is doing better than the United States, we have longer life expectancy (thanks to national health care), our medicine is cheaper, and in addition to that, we value different cultures.

Sorry, don't know why anyone would want to leave that for the USA.

CanadaKA has some nice people.. but there are a lot of extremists there. Freedominion is the type I was actually referring to, though. A lot of the people there just follow along anything that the republican party says.. that's not an overstatement.

Yeah, it is a joke.

They are really obsessed with stuff like fox news. They would probably be the only people I know of that want to move join to the US and join in the ultra-right party.

It's funny, I've seen them bragging about "trolling" sites like vivelecanada, rabble and others which promote social equality or views which would be otherwise considered of left-of-centre.

Yes! That's the site, Andem. And they call themselves "principled conservatives". What a joke.

Principled conservatives? That's an oxymoron, kinda like 'compassionate conservatives' or 'military intelligence'.

They do a fair bit of trolling at Vive and other sites. They are easy to spot though...they are the ones who can't back up their positions with facts.

They still let you into Free Dominion, Andem? You must stay pretty quiet...

I was actually going to move off to Florida a few years ago and get a place with my American friend. Long story, but after visiting Boca Raton, Florida and spending some time in Fort Lauderdale, I decided no way.

I love Canadian values, society and just our way of life. Florida was just too far out for me. Just for the record: The drug scene in my friends' high school in Boca was much more "dirty" than what I witnessed at high school in Northern Toronto. A lot of them were doing acid (one thing a lot of them liked was acid on altoids) while here it was usually just marijuana.

There's a lot about Canada the US that are similar but there's some aspects that are polar opposites.

Yeah, I just browse there sometimes.. I've posted a couple of times in the past, but nothing too radical. I usually get shot down as a "communist". Why me suggesting watching a wide variety of news programs would be considered communism is beyond me.

Oh my. I just visited this Free Dominion for the first time. They're so... oh, words just can't describe what they are. I want someone to please tell me they aren't for real, okay? Thanks.

It's all true!! They are apparantly real people, unless they are just all Americans playing as Canadians. Actually that might be true, I hear that site is run by a large American republican group... Freerepublic or something.

Unbelievable. I don't want to think of Canadians being that way, but there's always Stephen Harper to remind me that yes, such Canadians do, in fact, exist. Hope they stay in the other provinces, I sure don't want them infesting B.C..

I don't think I'll be moving to the U.S. but I would if I was in my early teens or 20's.
The U.S. is gonna start this personal retirement savings and stock market deal. That is gonna put trillions into the US economy.
America will soon look and act just like it did in the 20's. Party-Party-Party!
Americans will agree to any money the government wants to give corporations because it will be said to be good for their retirement pensions.
Then, the world will await the collapse just like the dirty 30's.

Sometimes I think those who demand that the State become synonomous with the Church are really wanting a Christian Taliban Government.
Sure, give us a President Jerry Falwell and watch the Christian Taliban deep-six the homosexuals in the Name of God.
Give us a President Robertson or give us a Congress ruled by the Promise Keepers and watch the divorce be criminalized.
Yes, even in our day, there are some who demand an earthly king over the Christ King and wish him to sit on the throne of their social and religious life rather than in their hearts.
Not a wonder that the Bible speaks of those panic stricken in the EndTimes and who are found peering into the skies and demanding to be put out of their misery!

No, I thank God that there remains a separation of church and state --- well, 'officially' at least. Do a study of ancient Babylon and then compare it to the mentions of it in Revelation and make careful note of it's ultimate demise ... because that is precisely what the successful Christian Taliban cause would be.

They are very much for real, Haggis. They also really hate people who talk back.

Hmm, and can one talk back, get them mad, but NOT get banned? If one is savvy about how they post their thoughts? I'd like to know, because I wouldn't half-mind going over there and giving it a stab. I'd just use a different username.
