RB,

In what ways are "their issues" different than ours. From what I've seen many of their problems were the same as ours.

Their issues are the same as ours? I wasn't aware that Sweden had signed on to NAFTA.

RB,

Isn't this a thread about medical problems with the Canadian health system???? I'm asking about issues relating to their health system. Weren't their health problems the same as ours before they started to privatize??

No, the problems vary from country to country. One of the biggest challenges we face is that because of NAFTA and groups like the Fraser Institute there is a very strong push for us to adopt a US-style system in Canada. If we allow two tier health care in Canada, US-based corporations could easily launch a NAFTA suit seeking to expand it under trade agreements.

That is something that we have to keep very much in mind when discussing health care, universal child care, Canadian content laws, water sales, and a bevy of other issues.

RB,

Yes, Sweden isn't part of NAFTA but it is part of the EU which has probably many of the same issues.

PS, I thought we had agreed that there was already two-tiered health care in this country

No, the EU is not the same as NAFTA. No, I didn't agree that we had two-tiered health care.

RB,

You agreed that the poor don't have the same access to dental and vision care as the rich.

Isn't that two-tiered health care?????

It's more something I see as a problem, tibear. I would include those, non-cosmetically, in health care.

We are really talking about two different things though and that is a side issue at best...an attempt by you to twist things.

How you can say dental and vision are not part of health care is simply beyond me. It's like saying your legs are not part of your body. Your worried about cataract surgery when a person can't eat??? Your more concerned about about hip replacement surgery than an individuals ability to see??

I'm glad your not my doctor.

Interesting how, when an arguement is made to counter your beliefs, you always regards it as a "different issue". Me thinks someone is having difficulty dealing with valid counter points!!

It would appear that you don't think at all, tibear. If a dental problem is severe enough, it is covered under medicare. So is cataract surgery and treatment for glaucoma.

Would I like to see that expanded? You bet. We have to solve the problems we have now before we can do that though.

You are trying to twist words from what is essentially a different conversation to prove a point here. Quit it.

RB,

Your logic completely baffles me. How is talking about the fact that the poor can't afford proper dental or eye coverage not in keeping with the two-tiered health care discussion?? You don't think that a child who has vision so bad they can't see anything anything beyond a foot in front of them is something to concern ourselves about?

How is bringing up Sweden's conversion of thier public system to public/private health care not fit into this discussion?

RB,

So what do you see the debate to be about in this thread, if it isn't about providing a better health care system for all Canadians??

Nice debating skills. What song are you singing as you jump up and down with your fingers in your ears??

A little something by the Electric Chairs. It's from an album called Blatantly Offensive, so I can't really post the lyrics or even the song title.
